Are me and my boyfriend fired?
Me and my boyfriend started working at the Chick-fil-A in my city about a month ago (I work FOH and him working BOH) so we could get an apartment together close to home and college for when I decided to go back to school. However some family issues came up in which my uncle and my childhood pet passed away (we knew it was coming, just didn’t know when it would happen) so I had to call off a couple days. Yes I know it’s not great since I just started working there but I refuse to not go and see my family when they are at their worst just because I work that day. I even offered to pick up any shifts that were available to make up for it and explained why I was calling off the days I did.
A few weeks go by and I notice my shifts were getting cut to like 2 days a week rather than the 4 or so that I was getting. I wasn’t particularly concerned since it is a newer restaurant and they hired a lot of people and now that it’s winding down they don’t need as many people at one time, but I still tried picking up shifts when others were dropped. The only problem was not one of those shifts were accepted. I even tried picking up to 3 shifts one week.
Well I called one day when I only got 1 shift for the next week and asked if I could be notified of ANY shifts I could pick up plus I was still trying to pick up shifts through hot schedules. I still got nothing. Then I didn’t even get a shift the next week and I asked my boyfriend if he could ask them when he went in the next day but he didn’t get a straight answer from them, just that they’ve got a lot of new people to train and that I’ll get hours the next week. Next thing we know my boyfriend gets his hours cut to 2 days a week and then last week down to nothing while I still don’t have any hours.
Just this week I went to see if maybe I had any shifts or if I could pick any up(not that they’d be accepted) and I can no longer access hot schedules or slack. My boyfriend still has access but we’re not sure how long that will be if he doesn’t get any hours. I’ve been looking for a new job pretty much since my hours got cut down since we can’t support ourselves on half our normal income but I’m not sure what to do at this point? How should I proceed with this?
