I'm sure I've read a few but I'm probably making this post because I've typically only read ones where the ML is always centering his universe to the mc (even if there is a backstory), possessive, easily aroused + high energy, some kind of hero for the mc, but also the mc's story is usually more tragic.
Also usually the ML is either selfless or a dog blood perpetrator or a mix of both
What if the ML centered his universe to the gaping hole inside himself (or nihilism /j) and did a lot of selfish *self* sabotage?
I'm in the mood for MLs that although they might seem alright on the outside and might even have some ambitions that they need to put on a facade (even in front of the mc) for, but in reality their soul is just so sad and empty. Like every day feels like being a living corpse, intimacy from their view just feels like gut wrenching angst/maybe even the smut feels sad......
Even better if the ml/seme is a substance addict (so his personality can be split- loving sometimes, totally hurtfully distant and angry or wasted other times) or just self destructive/does self destructive things. But he doesn't want to involve others/tries to isolate. And this all makes the mc very possessive/protective + can't trust the ML to stick around.
* ML is a big part of the MC's life but not the other way around or at east it doesn't come off that way (the self centered/already has goals and/or wants to isolate part)
* Preferred power imbalance but the ml voluntarily pushes the stakes towards the mc's favor...causing the mc to like him first

Preferred if they're both unstable (trauma for trauma) but in different ways, re-reading the post I mean throw in some abandonment issues mc x commitment issues ml it'd be perfect.
But no matter what the mc thinks the love interest never actually feels enough passion for him for it to be true love/total reciprocation for a while (......or it could be doomed yaoi that works too)
Preferred if the ML thinks he's only hurting himself.
I've read a lot of mainstream ones and technically what comes close the most from what I've read so far is Mistakenly Saving The Villain. Except Yue Wuhuan >!did find his reason to live to be another person/the mc (like in most danmei),!< and realistically I just felt like that wasn't enough
(And nothing fills the hole of that literary masterpiece manhwa 'Form Of Sympathy')
