TGCF paperback and hardcover copies?

This might be a silly question but I've been pondering it for a few days now so I would like some opinions please.

I'm debating if I should get the hardcover copies of TGCF. I have the paperback copies already and I love the cover arts and everything. I feel like if I get the hardcovers, they'll mainly just be for collection and displaying purposes. I won't really read them since I've already read the paperbacks. And if I want to reread, I would reread the paperbacks since they're easier to hold for me.

So, for those who have both. Are the hardcovers worth it?

And then the other thing is, if I get the hardcovers for TGCF then I feel inclined to get the SVSSS deluxe box set and hardcovers of MDZS as well. I don't know what to do...

Just received vol 1 of [Demon Venerable Also Wants to Know] and I'm feeling very mixed on it

This is just about how the book physically looks not the translation quality.

Maybe I'm being overly critical but it doesn't seem very cohesive. Like the art on the spine, the table of contents, the chapts, it's cute and I really like them. I also really like the character illustrations. And the book jacket's nice. I think Hai Tang did a good job there.

It's just the cover doesn't make any sense. I read this story a long time ago so maybe I'm misremembering but it just doesn't fit the tone of the story or the cute illustrations. And there's just something funny about the shikishi board showing the cover with this silvery glittery border and the tagline: Is the Demon Venerable in seclusion to study cultivation manuals... or read romance novels? Where's the correlation between that and the image??? But that's fine, I knew about this when I preordered. I'm just, I preordered vol 2 and I'm so confused by the cover. Am I overreacting or do these covers just not go together? When I compare this to Hai Tang's other series with multiple titles out, Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating, those the covers make sense together so what's going on with DVAWTK?

Also I like the book's spine, but I've never seen a spine look like that before, and a part of me does worry the book will fall apart lol. Then there's these smudges, the words escaping me, but they look like smudges on the top sides of the pages. At first I thought they were stains lol but it looks like this is a design choice that honestly I would've been fine not having on each page. Finally I do like the book jacket. So my feelings toward this vol is mixed. I don't know if I'm just being nit picky or what but something about this vol bothers me.

I'm sure I'll get over it but I was curious if anyone else felt this way about the vol.

help me find a danmei

It is QT, 1v1, mc shou was really badass and ml was so in love w him, important point is also both characters had a system and mc's system was really cute. Mc didn't realise ml had a system for a while too. And ml did something wrong when they knew each other before the qt I think, so mc really was pissed off at him, so ml followed him through worlds anonymously till that scene where ml's system is found out. So if you have anything similar please lmk I REALL really want to find this. please please help.

Handmade Bookmark For Heaven Official’s Blessing

I’m very proud of myself. New hobby unlocked. I’ve made one for each book in the series. I think I will definitely post the other ones soon. The First and Second ones are my favorites for Heaven’s Official that I have made.

Amnesia recommendation

I'm searching for a book where both the main character and the male lead have amnesia. They both met and were lovers, but for some reason, they both lost their memories. The only book that i know has this trope is Global university examination. Also, any book that has lovers being reincarnated together in every life. I don't really like light hearted books I prefer books with heavy writing and deep themes. I would love either modern, historical or fantasy. Thank you

Finished Copper Coins

I finished vol1 thinking it was boring and temporarily dropped it with the thought of wanting to drop it entirely, and I'm so glad I didnt!!

The last two volumes got me hooked. Everything got me hooked, especially the side characters. I cried in some parts, like when Jiang Shining disappeared and reincarnated as a scholar who met and sat with Xue Xian and Xuanmin in an eatery, and when Lu Nianqi found a kid who was the reincarnation of Lu Shijiu.

Ofc the main couple too, Xuanmin and Xue Xian. I think I teared up when they started being all lovey-dovey and kissed.

Honestly, I feel a bit empty after reading this danmei.. and I'm now craving danmeis with reincarnation 🥹

Unhinged/Psychologically Unreliable MC

Hi! I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a danmei/light novel where the main character is an unreliable narrator in the sense that they seem sane at first but after a bit you start to realize through their actions or otherwise they’re either unraveling or already insane/unhinged. I’d prefer if it had a physical copy as well!

Am I the last person to find out that Swallowing the Sea was originally called Drinking Ice?

I just learned something that broke me: Tun Hai (Swallowing the Seas) by Huai Shang was originally going to be titled "Yin Bing" — Drinking Ice.
It comes from a line of Chinese poetry: "Ten years of drinking ice, yet the blood remains hot."
It means someone with towering ambition cannot be crushed by suffering. No matter how long the darkness, the fire inside never dies.
And I immediately thought of Wu Yu. Twelve years in hell with no light. And yet he never once let go of the belief that he could claw his way back to the sun. That he deserved the sun.
That realization hit me so hard it honestly felt like fireworks exploding in my chest!😭😭

There’s something devastatingly beautiful about these “beautiful, strong, tragic” protagonists — characters who are scarred beyond repair, but still remain gentle, stubborn, and fiercely alive.

After that, I started desperately searching for more novels with this kind of character setting.

Here are some of the absolute best ones I’ve read so far:

Huai Shang's damage collection:
Po Yun (Breaking Through the Clouds)
Tun Hai (Swallowing the Sea) — the origin of this spiral
The Deepest Color of the Night
Qing Long Tu Teng (Azure Dragon Totem)
Lantern: Behold the Bayonet
Lantern: Reflection of the Peach Blossoms

Priest & powerhouses:
Mo Du (Silent Reading)

Liu Manpo — one hit, maximum damage:
Yan Wang (Yama/King of Hell)

Tang Jiuqing's political devastation:
Nan Chan
Qiang Jin Jiu

Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou — I'll never recover:
Yu Wu
Husky and His White Cat Shizun

MXTX — classics for a reason:
Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation)
Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official's Blessing)

Others that destroyed me in the best way:
Zhao Qin Mu Chu by Zhonghua Shuoshuren
Professor, Do you Want Suppressants? by Huang Chuan Dai
The Whole World Is Waiting for Us to Break Up by Bu Shi Feng Dong
All the Dao Sects Owe Me a Favor by Qi Jing Nan Qu

Please give me more recommendations if you know novels with this kind of protagonist. I’m completely addicted to this trope now.

Thousand Autumns, so much confusion

I started Thousand Autumns today’s and I’m so confused with all the names, factions and political who who it feels like I’m taking a Chinese history exam but didn’t study at all! Is there an easy way to try and discern what’s happening the main thing I get is Wan Yushi is trying to corrupt(?) Shan Qiao by sorta gaslighting him into thinking he belongs to their sect and to do immoralish stuff?

Does anyone have danmei recs where the shou is masculine & straight at first?

I’m such a sucker for this type of shou 😭 especially when the gong is the prettier one. Like in Golden Terrace - the shou was this masculine general and completely straight at first ahhh, while the gong was so pretty and took care of him. Xie Qingcheng from BAB also has that straight man cancer energy lmao, and He Yu is such a pretty gong. Lan Zhan too is our ethereal beauty while Wei Wuxian is more masculine/playful. Please feed me recs 🙏

Slump after reading Welcome to the Nightmare Live

Just finished {Welcome to the Nightmare Live} and now I’m in a reading slump because nothing feels as engaging.

I need modern danmei that hooks you fast and actually has plot/tension. Doesn’t have to be unlimited flow, just not pure fluff. I want something bingeable with strong characters and story that keeps you obsessed.

Let me know yours "just one more chapter"

I have an archnemesis now because of [Mistakenly Saving the Villain]

Let me preface this by saying I’m not sure what flair to use as I have never posted on this sub, but I need to tell someone about this. Anyone else would think I’m crazy so hear me out: I have an archnemesis now (this is one sided but that doesn’t make it any less true).

My public library system, which shall not be named, is acquiring the seven seas published danmei novels because public libraries are a backbone of society and know their people.

I borrowed Mistakenly Saving the Villain. It was a little rough at the start because it touches on a lot of heavy topics/triggering content that need to be handled with care and sometimes danmei plays off traumatic content as jokes or simply plot points but I’m happy I kept reading! I liked the first volume and there were multiple points I felt emotional for the main characters. HOWEVER!

I have finished the first volume and I now yearn for the second volume the way the children yearn for the mines. The issue is that the second volume is a new release and it has to be picked up physically/cannot be shipped to my nearest branch. I look up the location and it’s about a half hour drive. I was planning to be in the area this weekend anyways, okay? Okay.

I look up other danmei novels I’ve been meaning to read… same branch. Not just the first volumes, but most of them.

Salted fish? Same branch.
Disabled war god? Same branch.
Stars of chaos? Case file? The wife comes first? I want you, yes YOU, to guess this time where they could possibly be (same branch).

We have a lot of branches, like 30+, so this is odd.

I’m fully CONVINCED there’s another loser office worker in this neighboring city trying to get through their danmei list but they’re being GREEDY. They are now my rival, my enemy, my archnemesis.

It’s only fair I physically go pick up all the books the laws of the library will allow me and check them back in at my library branch. Girl let’s go band for band

Recommendations? The Wife Comes First

I just finished volume 2 of The Wife Comes First (by Lv Ye Quan He) and I've really enjoyed it. Any recommendations that are similar? I love that the couple are not toxic, and that they are lovey dovey. I enjoy the MC being clever as well. I dislike non-consensual interactions but it's tolerable to a small degree.

I also tried to read Thrice Married To A Salted Fish and couldn't force myself to finish the first book. Not enough romance and the plot wasn't interesting enough to me.
