Bank Teller to NDT Technician/Inspector Anyone Else Made a Similar Career Change?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently working as a bank teller, but I’ve decided it’s time for a career change at age 30. While banking has given me experience in customer service, accuracy, handling responsibility, and working under pressure, I’ve realized I want a more technical, hands-on career with better long-term earning potential.
After doing a lot of research, I’ve decided to pursue a career in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). My training program includes the practical hours required for ISO 9712 certification, and I’ll be completing Level I & II in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT). I’m also considering adding another method if it would improve my job prospects.
My long-term goal is to work in industries like oil & gas, mining, offshore, or industrial inspections, and eventually become a certified NDT Inspector.
For those of you already in the industry:
Did any of you come from a completely unrelated career?
How difficult was it to land your first NDT job with no industry experience?
Which certification or inspection method gave you the biggest advantage early on?
Any advice on things you wish you had done differently when starting out?
I’m excited about making the switch, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a little intimidating leaving a stable banking career.
