Soundproofing drain pipe in condo wall
Hello everyone. I live in a condo with an identical unit above me. Their bathroom drain pipe goes down my wall which is between my bathroom and my hallway. This can make their flushing quite loud. The pipe is also quite large exactly the width inside the wall.
Earlier this year I did some reading on here and decided to wrap the pipe in mass loaded vinyl and add fill the wall with insulation. The walls barely close shut and this has not resulted in any improvement.
I am deciding between
Doubling down and increasing the scope of the renovation - my preference
Ripping everything out and refinishing the walls as they were
Calling a professional - not my preference
Can anyone suggest how to further improve this?
I am considering widening the wall an inch or two to make room for more insulation. But I have no idea what else to add inside the wall. I also don’t know how to widen the door frame. I am also considering adding insulation to the ceiling since the pipe flows from the toilet across the ceiling into the wall. I wouldn’t mind redoing this bathroom anyway.
Finally if very successful I would redo the same project on the master bedroom and bathroom which has a similar in wall pipe but would be more labor intensive.
