Ff1/2

Hey, I know this gets asked a million times and I know the chances of getting picked up this late in the season are probably pretty low, but I’m trying to give myself the best shot I can.
For the August work location form, I changed my preferences to all hand crews first and then engines. Before that, I had every location selected but had engines ranked first.
I have my FF1, EMT, and experience, and I originally applied back in November, but I still haven’t heard anything. I’ve done a little politicking, but I probably could’ve done more.
Is there anything else I can realistically do at this point to improve my chances of getting picked up? I’m genuinely trying my hardest just to get an opportunity and get my foot in the door. Thank you for any advice you guys have.

Hiring

Hi everyone, looking for some advice from those already in the fire service. I’m a 26m trying to get my first wildland fire job. I have my FF1, EMT, and some EMS and tech rescue experience. Most of my applications have been with CAL FIRE, but it sounds like this year has been pretty competitive for new FF1s. I understand it’s late in the season, so I’m not expecting much this year. If I don’t get picked up, what would you recommend I do between now and next hiring season to make myself a stronger candidate? Are there any additional certifications, experience, agencies, volunteer opportunities, or networking opportunities I should focus on? Any advice from those who have recently been hired would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Ff1 ff2 hiring

Hey everyone, I know this gets asked a lot but I’m looking for some advice.

I received CAT 1 status back in January and applied statewide, including every unit I could. I also politicked where possible and confirmed through the FF hotline that all of my certs were current and active.

Background wise I have several years on an ambulance, Ski Patrol experience, FF1, EMT, and this is my third season applying but my first season as CAT 1.

I know I’m not owed a job, but I feel like I bring a lot to the table and I’m trying to figure out what I may be doing wrong or where I can improve.

I also completed the FF2 exam and scored a 95. I know that score isn’t uncommon, but I’m still hoping it helps when FF2 non medic positions reopen. Does anyone known when it will open again?

For those who have been hired recently:

• Is there anything I should be doing differently?
• Are there units that are still moving people?
• Any advice for someone trying to break in after multiple seasons applying?

I know staffing changes have slowed things down, but I’m trying to stay positive and keep pushing.

Appreciate any advice.
