CAL FIRE soft time after 1700 for a probationary FAE?

New full-time FAE on probation here. Is there an actual CAL FIRE policy that addresses watching TV after 1700 and whether you’re expected to stay in Class Bs all day, or is it entirely up to the captain and local station culture?

Paramedic roles

What counties in cal fire have medic spots? Finishing medic school and I’m interested in cal fire don’t mind where I go. Only know about SBU, SDU, and RCU. Any other units operate like that?

Will CAL FIRE ever reevaluate their wildland firefighting strategies?

After learning a little bit about forestry and resource management CAL FIRE’s policy of keeping 95% of fires at 10 acres or less seems kinda counterproductive. I’m relatively new to wildland firefighting, but having spent some time around both Feds and CAL FIRE it seems there is a lot of animosity toward each other’s incident management and strategies.

I understand that there is a difference in coverage responsibility, with the feds covering generally less populated areas. This lends itself to letting low intensity fires burn longer to properly manage forests and other vegetation. However, CAL FIRE’s “selling point” and also their biggest critique is their initial attack capabilities/strategy. Sending as many resources as they can to an incident before it has any chance of growing. This is obviously great for when lives or property is threatened but seems out of place for many remote low-intensity fires.

What is preventing CAL FIRE from adopting a more prevention focused plan, increasing prescribed burns, utilizing modified containment and increasing funding to vegetation management programs?

BTW I’m not talking bad about CAL FIRE I’m just curious about why these policies were chosen

Forestry Aides with Healthcare and Retirement?

Hey folks!

I am asking this question from outside of Calfire, I wanted to ask some of you forestry people if the Forestry Aides get Healthcare and retirement benefits like the Firefighter 1s do. I have heard mixed messages from the suppression folks in the department but curious to hear more thoughts. Hope yall are doing well, thank you for your time!

FF1 academy standalone 1A

I have everything for my FF1 except 1A. As someone not yet employed by Cal Fire, does anyone know anywhere that offers standalone 1A portions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
