Has anyone here dealt with the new April 2026 recall (26S28 / NHTSA 26V237) for the 2015–2017 F-150s with the 6-speed transmission and unexpected downshifting?
I’m particularly interested in anyone who had symptoms that ultimately turned out to be a bad molded lead frame / transmission sensor issue and whether your diagnostic codes met Ford’s criteria for repair under a warranty extension, CSP, or other coverage.
My truck has had the wrench icon come on numerous times. The first time it happened, I was driving in 6th gear when the truck suddenly downshifted from 6th to 3rd and went into limp mode. I couldn’t get it out of limp mode until I stopped and put the truck in Park. Since then, I’ve had two more episodes where it suddenly downshifted from 6th to 3rd, and now the check engine light is on as well.
For those who had a failing lead frame:
Did you get the wrench icon and/or CEL?
What codes did the dealer pull?
Did your truck downshift abruptly and go into limp mode?
Did Ford ultimately diagnose the lead frame/valve body?
Most importantly, did your codes meet Ford’s specific criteria to have the lead frame repair covered, or did they tell you it wasn’t covered?
I’m trying to figure out what others have experienced before I take it in, especially given how closely these symptoms seem to overlap with the transmission issues being discussed with these trucks.
Would appreciate hearing what year/mileage you had, what codes were stored, and what Ford ultimately covered.
