do i actually need power steps or am i setting myself up for winter headaches?

My dad had a hard time climbing into my F-150 last weekend, and my wife is pretty much done jumping out of it, so I have been thinking about power running boards instead of fixed steps. I like the idea of them tucking up cleanly, but I live where winter means road salt, freezing slush, and a lot of grime under the doors. If anyone of you who have run electric steps on an F-150 for a few winters, do the motors and hinges stay reliable, or do they become one more thing to clean and worry about?

Added a little dash of panache

Been wanting to do this since I first got the truck, but I was very particular about what I wanted. I wanted the light to emanate from behind the grid in the vent. Gives a more subtle vibe like there’s a glowing nuclear reactor under the hood. Heh. The popular kits all just mount up in the corner of the vents and give a different look. I ultimately found some cheap strips on amazon and more less followed this dude’s method with a couple modifications: https://youtu.be/2NuThV-mEqg?is=-H9rCwMTv7P2Yn5a

Fresh off a muddy trail, stepping in carefully and hoping these mats actually hold up like they're supposed to.

F150 Purchase

I am looking at purchasing an F150 Lariat 5.0. After looking for about a week, I am realizing to get a truck that is the model I want and has the features I am looking for, I am going to have to expand my search to dealerships further away. I am looking at preowned, and theres just not a whole lot of 2023+ preowned in my area, and I think the dealerships in my area know that so the ones they have they are inflating the price to almost what a new one would be.

I found a 2023 with 42K miles that seems to have everything I want. Experian auto check shows a clean history, one owner, no accidents. Problem is, the dealership is 3 hours from me. The dealership says they offer delivery, but what are some things I should make sure of before proceeding if I chose to purchase. The truck is currently at a Chevrolet/GMC dealership that seems that have pretty good reviews on google.

Any thoughts and opinions welcome!

What is the most reliable F150? (2018 and newer)

So I’m looking into getting another f150 and it sounds like the new f150’s aren’t the most reliable. I had a 2013 3.5 eco boost and I loved that truck but I felt like I was working on it every other weekend. I did buy it with high mileage though, 170,000 miles on it and sold it with over 230,000. On the other hand my buddy has the exact same truck and he has over 300,000 miles on his and has had minimal issues with it. I will say after I fixed everything it seemed to run pretty good and I know shits gonna break eventually but if I can keep from working on a vehicle to a minimum that would be ideal. I know there’s always a little risk when buying used but what do you guys think the most reliable f150 is? Preferably with the 2018’s and newer?

Here’s what I’m looking for.

-Good towing capacity (9,000lbs and up but isn’t a deal breaker if I find a good deal on a truck that has a lower towing capacity)
-As stated in the title I’d like to get something a little newer so 2018 and up would be nice.
-My budget is around $40,000 give or take. I’m flexible if I find a really good deal on something that costs a little more but would like to stay around 40.
-I’d prefer a lariat, king ranch, limited or platinum.

What do you guys think? What have your experiences been like if you’ve owned a newer f150?

2019 Lariat Sync 3 -> Sync 4 (OEM Infotainment)

I’ve always loved the giant Sync 4 screens so I grabbed an OEM kit from Infotainment and did the 3 -> 4 install in my driveway in about 40 minutes. Zero issues, every feature works perfectly, cameras/trailer backup unaffected. I highly recommend these over the Chinese Android-based junk online, but the price difference is notable ($500-$1200 vs $2200).

The display sits higher and relocates the 3-button bar to below the display to avoid a giant ugly (IMO) plastic dash kit. I would say anyone remotely familiar with popping off panels and connecting harnesses can do this themselves, the biggest “risk” is busting or losing a panel fastener. DM me if you have any questions!

Uh? Why?

This popped up for a second time in two weeks.

Anyone else have this issue?

I pulled over, turned it off for about 5 mins, then started it back up with no issues.

2021 2.7 Eco if you're wondering.

Question about temperature

I have a question. I’m still learning my new to me truck. 2020 f150 platinum 3.5 eco boost. 78k miles. Just purchased last Thursday from a ford dealership and it is blue certified. I don’t have any check engine light on and I haven’t had time to check for any stored codes but I notice that when I’m on the interstate cruising at 70 mph, (not pulling any trailers) my water temp goes up to 235 after a little while and then it goes down. ( running in normal mode ) A few minutes later it will go back up to 235 and goes back down again I figure it’s just the shutters opening and closing and it does not run that high of a temp in city driving but I do hear my fans running hard. Are any of your trucks with this engine doing this? Do I have an issue or is this normal for these trucks? Thank you so much for your suggestions. —

Advice

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this beautiful truck. Went to the dealership and negotiated from 80,555 to 70,500 plus TTL so about 75k out the door. I’m kind of happy with this price but for some reason my gut tells me I can still find a better deal out there. What do you guys think? Any opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

26S28 Recall/Lead Frame

2015–2017 F-150 Recall / Lead Frame — Anyone Have Similar Symptoms and Get It Covered?

Vehicle: 2017 F-150 5.0 XLT 132,XXX

Has anyone here dealt with the new April 2026 recall (26S28 / NHTSA 26V237) for the 2015–2017 F-150s with the 6-speed transmission and unexpected downshifting?
I’m particularly interested in anyone who had symptoms that ultimately turned out to be a bad molded lead frame / transmission sensor issue and whether your diagnostic codes met Ford’s criteria for repair under a warranty extension, CSP, or other coverage.

My truck has had the wrench icon come on numerous times. The first time it happened, I was driving in 6th gear when the truck suddenly downshifted from 6th to 3rd and went into limp mode. I couldn’t get it out of limp mode until I stopped and put the truck in Park. Since then, I’ve had two more episodes where it suddenly downshifted from 6th to 3rd, and now the check engine light is on as well.

For those who had a failing lead frame:
Did you get the wrench icon and/or CEL?
What codes did the dealer pull?
Did your truck downshift abruptly and go into limp mode?
Did Ford ultimately diagnose the lead frame/valve body?
Most importantly, did your codes meet Ford’s specific criteria to have the lead frame repair covered, or did they tell you it wasn’t covered?

I’m trying to figure out what others have experienced before I take it in, especially given how closely these symptoms seem to overlap with the transmission issues being discussed with these trucks.

Would appreciate hearing what year/mileage you had, what codes were stored, and what Ford ultimately covered.

V8 Is Back: Ford F-150 Adds More V8 Options For 2027

V8 returns as an option for King Ranch and Platinum trims; 3.0 V6 becomes the standard base engine.

Honestly, smart moves by Ford here in my opinion.

Buying a used 2016 2.7L V6 Please LOOK!

So I’m going through truck ranch boat through West Jordan Utah and there is this truck I’m looking at purchasing it is pristine exterior and interior but they undercoat all their trucks and people in my corner are telling me it looks like they are covering up rust. From these photos can anyone tell me if my family is wrong or if Sam the salesman I’m dealing with is telling the truth that it’s good. He’s from upstate New York and says he’s dealt with rust his whole life and this looks spectacular. My step dad is telling me this raises concerns. They are 7 hours away so I can’t quite drive down the road to investigate myself. Please help out

2025 2.7 whine/howl

Hey guys, first post here. As the title says, I have a 2025 F150 XLT with the 2.7 Ecoboost and it's 4x4. It has 10k miles on it and has already had the rear differential rebuilt by a dealer in Sarasota. It originally had a vibration at 40 to 50 mph that started at around 2,000 miles and was accompanied by a howl on deceleration. The vibration and howl went away at higher speeds and came back around 75 mph. The dealer rebuilt the rear differential and the vibration went away, but the howl remained. 1,000 miles later the vibration returned and I took it back to the dealer in Sarasota. They rebuilt the entire rear axle, new differential carrier, ring and pinion, and axle bearings. Howl and vibration were still present afterwards and they told me itis just a normal characteristic of the truck. Drove it for another 600 miles before I got tired of it and took it to another dealer in Tampa, where they rotated and balanced the tires and ended up replacing one because it couldnt be road force balanced because it was so bad. Got the truck back yesterday and the vibration is completely gone at all speeds, however there is still a slight howling noise with a slight growling feeling coming from the steering wheel between 45 and 50 mph. Does anyone else's 2.7 4x4 do this??? It can't be normal, right?

How are y’all charging everything in your F-150?🤯

Between my phone, work phone and a couple other devices, I swear every charging spot is taken half the time 😂
Not a huge deal, just one of those little things that gets annoying when you’re in the truck every day.
What are y’all using? Any setup that actually works well?😇

What’s one small F-150 upgrade you bought that was actually worth it?😎

Thought the F-150 tailgate step was a gimmick… am I wrong?
Not talking about lifts, wheels, or anything crazy expensive. I mean the small stuff you use every day that actually made owning the truck better. What’s yours?
