This thread-like yellow vine has entwined its way throughout my patch of cosmos. It’s very creepy looking. I’ve never seen anything like it. 😱 Any idea what this is? Should I just set fire to the entire thing?
Edit: Identified! Thanks to r/whatsthisplant, this has been identified as Dodder or Cascuta, a parasitic vine related to morning glory.
I’m landscaping an area in the spring, and want to put in edging, and I think bamboo is the right look. However, buying individual dried poles at a nursery will be cost-prohibitive. I think I could swallow $10 a linear foot, but $5 would be more in line with the budget I have in mind. Does anyone know of good sources of raw bamboo? I was thinking I could cure it myself to save money. TIA!
EDIT FOR CLARITY. Using dead, cut, and dried bamboo for edging. No, I am not planting live bamboo.
The garden had a tough year for a variety of reasons, but this dahlia has really out-performed. (No, those are not dahlia leaves. It has gotten so top-heavy it has tumbled into the sage.)
Neem oil doesn’t seem to affect it.
If some insect is going to use these dried blossoms or seeds, I’d rather leave them. But if not, I’d prefer a tidier look. Thoughts?
They are both 21” W with 21x21” seats and 21x21” backs. Clean. One has been ineptly repaired as shown in photo.
We have had way above normal rabbit, squirrel, and mole damage this year, which was a huge setback for my garden. 2 of my 3 raised beds were pretty much destroyed. But the deck planters turned out well, I think. Nature giveth, and nature taketh away.

I haven’t been able to find it anywhere except the dreaded Amazon. I’ve tried others, but I’ve always gotten great results from MaxSea Bloom for things like tuberous begonias and fuchsias. TIA!
We are getting substantially more mole activity in the yard than usual, and bless these chunky little critters for aerating my lawn for free, but I’m wondering if I’m heading for a population explosion. We normally get one or two mounds per season, but I’ve had 3 mounds in two days and lots of trails. I really lean into peaceful coexistence, but I can’t have the lawn turn into a dirt pile. We have a large energetic dog who lives for rolling in the lawn.
P.s. - Definitely moles, not gophers.
The property we bought a few years ago has about 150 sq ft shade garden populated by fringe cup and lily of the valley. I’ve never paid it much mind because it was the lowest maintenance area of the garden and I had bigger fish to fry. Well, much to my chagrin, I realized yesterday that I have very few fringe cup left, and that the LOTV has created such a dense mat, I can’t even get a shovel through it. I’m having to use a hatchet! If only gophers found it tasty, but of course not. Any suggestions are welcome. I have large, old deciduous azaleas in this bed, so herbicides are out. TIA!
These are my first apple trees, so I’m not familiar. Some of the leaves also have a mottled appearance. Some fungus?
