Goodbye DS4!

Goodbye DS4!
I'm not sure what it is. When I look at the songwriting craft on these EPs they seem impressive. The lyrics for Tears of Things, on paper, are some of the heaviest, deepest, most literary lyrics Bono has ever written. And Scars is such a classic U2 rocker it could have come from any time in their past.
But, the strange thing is I just can't bring myself to listen to these songs much and I'm not sure why. They just feel heavy and not fun. Maybe it's a "me thing". But I played it for a friend who is a fan and he said something that clicked for me.
He said that songs like One and With Or Without You are simple pure emotions. Whereas these new songs are not as clear emotionally. They're kind of murky and complex. So maybe they're more sophisticated songs. But the songs that I come back to listening to repeatedly tend not be "sophisticated".
I don't know if I'm making sense or if anyone else has had this feeling about the EPs. It's strange for me because I usually listen over and over to a new release without getting tired of it.
But with these EPs I have only listened to them maybe five or six times each since they came out because I have to be in a certain mood to sit through them.
Curious to hear other people's thoughts.
