LOL what? (Duolingo marking a “formal” answer wrong then using it in the next question)

I already reported this. But I am posting it here because it truly is absurd and a type of error that is quite new to me.

First, I saw the multi word block “in the midst of” and I had a feeling Duolingo would mark it wrong for not being on the word list, but tried to use it instead of “in” anyway. I guess this was a mistake and I should have known better.

Then, when I clicked the “explain my answer” button, the often-wrong AI did in fact say I wasn’t correct, but because of it being too formal and unusual. Okay, I guess that would make sense, but…

The very next question asked me to translate the English phrase “in the midst of” back to Japanese.

I get that AI course generation leads to silly mistakes like this and I’m not really surprised, but couldn’t they at least make sure it’s consistent in both directions (English to Japanese and Japanese to English)?

Was I right to report this because it should have been accepted?

First post here. I know Duolingo has errors and often doesn’t accept every answer that it should but just clarifying that this answer should have been marked as correct? The AI summary (yes, I know it often makes errors) literally said that the Spanish word clase can mean either class or lesson followed by it opining that class is the better translation for this context. But personally I think it’s completely interchangeable in English when discussing online classes or online lessons?
