Why are foreigners (tourists?) so incredibly rude to the Indians selling fake watching?
I’ve lived here for a while and have come across many of the guys selling watches. The interaction has always been very short. They walk up to me with a watch, I say no thank you, and they walk away. Maybe sometimes I’ll have a guy who will persist and ask me a second time. But overall the whole exchange is like 5 seconds long.
But I see foreigners telling them to angrily fuck off. Willing to throw hands. Just treating these guys like absolute dog shit. And I genuinely don’t get why? When you think about it, these Indian guys are not scammers. They aren’t trying to bamboozle you out of your money. They’re simply hustling. Everyone knows the watch is fake. They aren’t tricking you. Just trying to sell something. But people treat them like they’ve punched your granny. Is it simply anti-Indian bigotry?
I get that the one guy who won’t take no for an answer when you’re out having a pint with your friends can be annoying. And sure, tell him to fuck off if he just won’t leave. But generally, these are just poor vendors trying to make some cash. No different to the old lady selling mints, or that flamboyant lady selling the “I love ladyboy cock” armbands.
