Magic School…

I think it would have been better received if it was a new concept trying to get off the ground or even something one of the girls thought of, not something that been established for years by the time it was introduced.

I like the vibe and setting of Magic School, but the fact it’s been there for years was terrible continuity to me. It makes Leo look incompetent. Grams and Patty couldn’t have taken the girls there when the warlock came for their powers? The sisters had helped so many young witches in peril, but it was never mentioned to the likes of Tyler?

Scenario 1: Gideon approaches newly turned Elder Leo to pitch his golden goose, as the other elders have basically written it off. Leo, actually caring about charges, agrees and they basically found it together.

Scenario 2: Gideon had established Magic School maybe a year or two before, but it’s struggling and he asks Leo for advice. Leo helps out, wanting a safe space for all magical children, gets the sisters on board and they all help Gideon completely revamp the place. (I based this off the theory that the Cleaners were created after the Shax disaster. In this case, all the bullshittery that’s happened in the past couple years inspired Gideon to form the place, but he’s decades—maybe even centuries old—and he has no idea how to connect with the youth of today, unlike Leo and the sisters.)

Scenario 3: After a rough ‘case’ involving a child witch, Paige angrily rants about the Elders/Whitelighters needing to do better with the children of the magic world and decides to do something about it. She goes to her estranged BIL not that he’s got some sway upstairs and he thinks it’s a great idea, leading them to plead their case to the other Elders. Gideon, who actually cares about children not named Wyatt and also senses an opening to study the object of his suspicions, advocates for their idea, leading the other Elders to grant permission for Magic School to be created. In this scenario, instead of Richard, Paige gets together with Gideon as they work together to build the school. That makes the betrayal all the more painful and is the reason Paige begins pulling away from the school in the next season—too many painful memories instead of her just getting bored of it.

What do you guys think?

Characters you think could have been great together (platonically or romantically) if they had met?

I think Lexie and Mousy respective brands of weird could have played off each other well, especially with them both being interested in neuro. In fact, I think Lexie could have been a great chief resident to the season 9 interns. (I also wish she could have had more interactions with Amelia, but that’s cheating)

I also think Arizona and Link (and possibly April) could have been amazing together in an annoying. eternal ray of sunshine kind of way.

Speaking of April, she reminded me a lot of George and I think they would have bonded over being overlooked. (George would have been a good mentor to the future generations of interns too.)

Do you think Izzie would have actually done well in Addison’s specialty/specialities?

I love Izzie. I think she had great potential—both as a character and a surgeon—but she has been shown to be overly attached and a little pushy. I’m not sure that translates well to mothers dealing with sick newborns or women perhaps seeking sterilization or an abortion.

What are some moments when a character you liked absolutely pissed you off?

Besides Alex leaving via letters, as to not have the same thing repeated endlessly

•Arizona’s affair.

•So many Amelia moments 😩 Relationship hopping, taking her grief out on Winston and Yasuda, the paternity issue with Link and Owen, etc. Girl, I love you, you’re my favorite—please start making better choices.

•A fair amount of Callie moments too—her attitude towards Arizona not wanting kids, complaining about not having sex because of Arizona’s amputation, her entire attitude during custody case.

•MAGIC treating their interns like shit and/or neglecting their education in s4/5—Cristina most of all, Alex second. Bailey did not raise them to act like that. She should have slapped the shit out of them.

•April not telling Jackson she was pregnant again. Although in the same vein, I also get annoyed by Arizona telling Jackson anyway. Hypocrite = me.

•Everyone shaming April being a virgin.

•Addison referring to herself as a “real woman” as opposed to Lexie (more of a Private Practice one, but still…the feminist icon I know and love would never feel the need to put down another woman based solely on her age.)

Just to name a few.
