Magic School…
I think it would have been better received if it was a new concept trying to get off the ground or even something one of the girls thought of, not something that been established for years by the time it was introduced.
I like the vibe and setting of Magic School, but the fact it’s been there for years was terrible continuity to me. It makes Leo look incompetent. Grams and Patty couldn’t have taken the girls there when the warlock came for their powers? The sisters had helped so many young witches in peril, but it was never mentioned to the likes of Tyler?
Scenario 1: Gideon approaches newly turned Elder Leo to pitch his golden goose, as the other elders have basically written it off. Leo, actually caring about charges, agrees and they basically found it together.
Scenario 2: Gideon had established Magic School maybe a year or two before, but it’s struggling and he asks Leo for advice. Leo helps out, wanting a safe space for all magical children, gets the sisters on board and they all help Gideon completely revamp the place. (I based this off the theory that the Cleaners were created after the Shax disaster. In this case, all the bullshittery that’s happened in the past couple years inspired Gideon to form the place, but he’s decades—maybe even centuries old—and he has no idea how to connect with the youth of today, unlike Leo and the sisters.)
Scenario 3: After a rough ‘case’ involving a child witch, Paige angrily rants about the Elders/Whitelighters needing to do better with the children of the magic world and decides to do something about it. She goes to her estranged BIL not that he’s got some sway upstairs and he thinks it’s a great idea, leading them to plead their case to the other Elders. Gideon, who actually cares about children not named Wyatt and also senses an opening to study the object of his suspicions, advocates for their idea, leading the other Elders to grant permission for Magic School to be created. In this scenario, instead of Richard, Paige gets together with Gideon as they work together to build the school. That makes the betrayal all the more painful and is the reason Paige begins pulling away from the school in the next season—too many painful memories instead of her just getting bored of it.
What do you guys think?
