Trend around MC going to zero to douchebag in 3 books or less

I've a question for the authors. What's the deal with shift towards making the MCs more douche-y as the series progresses? I've noticed that there have been several books now where the MC/hero gets sent into a new world with no aspirations or knowledge of the systems (cultivation, magic, etc.). Then, blam-o, this "nobody" is the OP savior of the world. In the first couple of books, the MC is pretty chill and humble but by the time we get to later novels, this dude is now the ONLY person that can do anything and can't bother to listen to anyone else that might have some insight. (Oh and his harem which consisted of some of the strongest women in the world become basically sidekicks or, worse, sycophants). I've had to put down a couple of series that I was pretty invested in because of this phenomenon. So, my question...is this character development, plot twist? What are you hoping to accomplish with these fairly major character shifts?
