Cancelled flight - compensation?

Hi all,

My niece is flying from LHR to Ho Chi Minh today via Doha. The flight was booked on cheapoair.com with British airways, the carrier is Qatar. Yesterday she went to check in - all flights were showing but she couldn’t actually check in. She checked a couple of hours later and the LHR to Doha leg had disappeared. Rest of flights were visible. No comms from BA. BA wouldn’t give us any information because we couldn’t pass their security questions (no idea why - they couldn’t tell us either). Cheapoair were able to speak with them - were informed the flight was cancelled and they would rebook her for tomorrow (6th). We refused as there were seats in economy visible and bookable on both the same flight and several other flights today. They eventually (at my insistence and after citing UK law) booked her onto a Turkish airways flights leaving today.

I have two questions:

  1. Is she stile entitled to cancellation compensation even though she has been rebooked ? It looks on the gov.uk website that she might be?
  2. BA have not communicated the cancelled flight to her, or to cheapoair. It was pure chance she went back to look and discovered this had happened Aside from just complaining - is there anything we should push for as compensation?

Thanks
