'I FUCKING QUIT' - wrote this to my HR and left my toxic job today. (Open full image to see my last message to them)
I joined a Kolkata-based company around two years ago and worked in US healthcare in a permanent night shift. At first, I thought I could just do my job and stay out of office politics. I was wrong.
The management culture here was extremely toxic. Supervisors would openly shame employees on the floor over things like body shape, skin colour, language, appearance and even sexual orientation. And there was a very obvious 'favourite employee' culture.
If you constantly buttered up the supervisors, brought them food/tiffin, cigarettes etc., you were treated like a star employee.
I was basically the opposite. I came on time, did my work, and left on time. That was my entire philosophy.
Then things started falling apart.
Several major US healthcare clients left their contracts earlier than expected, and from what employees could see, mismanagement played a major role. The company is family-run, and some management positions are occupied by family members and other insufficient people.
One of the more ridiculous things I witnessed was that they apparently had to buy ChatGPT Premium for supervisors/managers. Because some of them struggled to understand basic client emails and write responses in English.
After major clients left, the company started getting rid of older, experienced employees over extremely minor reasons. Things like exceeding a break by 15 minutes or logging in 10 minutes late.
At the same time, they were hiring freshers to save money.
And The experienced employees who remained were expected to carry an increasingly unreasonable workload and pressure because there simply weren't enough experienced people left.
I was one of them.
And then there was the WhatsApp group.
We literally had to announce everything there. Running five minutes late because of traffic? Post it in the group.
And if you didn't? You could expect to be called into a meeting and publicly berated while some Supervisors openly laugh at you.
Managers would openly call employees things like "chutiya" on the floor.
HR wasn't exactly a safe person to contact either. If someone emailed HR with a complaint about management, the complaint would apparently be forwarded straight to the manager involved, with HR essentially asking them what should be done.
So you can imagine how comfortable people felt raising genuine concerns. My ex Managers openly laugh and brag about it and how they decide what HR should do.
I can't speak for everyone's experience, but it was something I personally noticed and experienced. The company is owned and run by people from Bihar. Bihari Managers and Supervisor openly berate Bengali Employees. I lost count how many times I heard them say "tumlog to machli khaate ho" and shit.
But today, I reached my limit.
I was working on hospital billing today. After billing 612 line items, my Supervisor decided to put 90 more line items from a different employees file because he couldn't finish his 400 line items. I still finished 60 more and asked her if I can finish the rest tomorrow cause it was logout time. And she said "finish it now". So, I came to my desk and sent my resignation mail to HR by simply writing "I fucking Quit' and I finally left.
Also I didn't forget to post an update to their WhatsApp group cause they love it apparently. And the attached SS was my last msg before I left that shitty group for good.
I currently don't have a job. I am unemployed af. But I don't regret it. AT ALL.
