Hi everybody, I’m the creator/lead mod of this sub for whatever that’s worth.

This post is meant to be a bit of a reflection of where this sub came from and a conceptualization of where it’s going.

When I made this sub, I simply wanted to post a fat chungus map size comparison (see below) and not get the post removed for it. That spiraled into something much larger than I ever expected, for better and worse.

Over time the steam has kinda died out on behalf of us on the mod team and the community in general. Memes, shitposts, and general good vibes gave way to salty screenshotposting, drama, brigading, and general chuddery. Those who mistook sarcasm for genuine belief poured in, and we just couldn’t stay on top of it or lose a part of ourselves and become true Reddit Mods™️.

We tried to right the ship by banning screenshots entirely, got pushback, undid it, brought back the ban on weekends, then eventually life got in the way and we weren’t able to or didn’t care to stay on top of it.

The result is pretty obvious, sub’s dead.

So what do we do now? There’s two options, really:

1. Shut it down.
2. Find new staff to help bring back the quality.

I’ve always been a believer that good things aren’t meant to last forever. Subreddits start with a good idea, grow to a critical mass, then plummet in quality for one reason or another.

Entropy is inevitable or whatever that twink physicist said.

So, we are kinda at a fork in the road. I haven’t made a decision, but I want to open the conversation so the community can reflect and consider where we want to go.

If there’s a considerable number of people wanting to take up the opportunity to help moderate it, I’d be open to keeping it going provided quality actually improves.

If not, I’m not planning on letting this subreddit fester for much longer. Better to end on a mid note than a low one, especially since we aren’t ending on a high note.

Tl;dr: outjerked; sub’s dead?

Edit: for some reason my app is bugging out, but the other option is to bring on new mods that are willing to lock down on posts and quality.

I’ll open mod apps for those interested, see how responses go.
