Rereading Mossflower and loving the characters

Lady Amber is cool AF. I forgot how likable Gonff was, too. Such a funny, charming little guy 🤣 I also feel like some of the tropes that frustrated me a little in other Redwall books are not as present in this book. We get the little kid characters, Ferdy and Coggs, but without the lispy baby-talk, and the babies are actually brave and noble despite their young age. I’m not a big fan of the recurring trope of the stupid and utterly cowardly vermin minion, so I’m glad to see that many of the vermin mooks have fairly sensible and likable personalities - we actually get to see them contemplate deserting Tsarmina’s ranks, but conclude that they can’t because of what she’d do to them if she caught them. I’m looking forward to reading more of Gingivere’s story, too.

I wrote a short fluffy, “Orphaned vermin gets taken in by Redwallers,” fic

I made a post a little while back about looking for a fluffy / uplifting fic where a young vermin is raised by Redwallers. Since it appeared that there may not have been a ton of fics out there with this theme, I wrote something short and fluffy myself. I may write more sometime. Feel free to give it a read if interested!

“After losing her parents in a clash with an enemy horde and having her fellow hordebeasts flee without her, a little ferretmaid is offered a home at the Abbey. When she questions whether she, the child of hordebeasts, can become truly good, the Abbess holds her close and tells her a story about how what is known as evil first came to be.”

”Fictional stories are sinful!!!1”

Grew up in a rather conservative Sunni / Salafi family. My paternal grandmother, whom I love, but who frustrates me sometimes, became rather fanatical when she moved to Yemen, which was when I was eight. I’ve always loved writing stories as a hobby; it was especially important to me when I was a kid. When I was thirteen, my grandmother decided to send me a helpful email with a fatwa saying that fictional stories are haram because they’re lies. Guess it wasn’t enough that I quit writing little songs because singing was haram. My parents were divorced, and my mom had moved to another state with my younger sister, whom I missed a lot. But thanks, just keep making life harder and lonelier for no reason.

Cute fics about young vermin being adopted by woodlanders or raised at Redwall?

Hi! I was wondering whether anyone knew of any cute, sweet fics about young vermin being raised by woodlanders, preferably at Redwall, though non-Abbey-dwelling woodlanders would also work. It doesn’t have to be fluff and slice-of-life only, though that would make me happy - I would also take a plotsy story with this theme as long as there were plenty of sweet childhood moments. Hoping for a fic where the overall tone is uplifting and positive like the actual Redwall books’ are, without too much angst. I’m also more than happy to read a fic you’ve written yourself with this theme. Not sure if what I’m looking for exists, but thought I’d ask 😣 I’m bored and annoyed at work and hoping for something cute to help pass the tedious hours. Thanks in advance!
