Idea: A tool that alerts you when your car gets a parking ticket or traffic fine in Tanzania
A while ago I got stopped by traffic police and fined for parking tickets I didn't even know I had. Then recently it happened again. I said this is bullshit, I need to do something about this.
The problem isn't that I don't know I get tickets, every car owner knows they'll get parking tickets when they park. The problem is I ignore them and forget about them until they pile up and I get hit with a big fine. And the process of checking is tedious. Half the time I don't even remember which website to use.
So that got me thinking, what if I could just leave my plate number somewhere and it checks for me and lets me know?
That's where it started. But just checking parking tickets wasn't enough. I added traffic fines too, because apparently I also forget about those and get penalties. And the third thing I always get caught off guard by is my insurance expiry. All three of these have government systems with data that already exists. It's just sitting there. Nobody alerts you automatically. GePG had the opportunity to do it and didn't.
So I built GariWatch. (Still not sure about the name!)
It's a simple website, you add your plate number and email, forget about it, and it does the work for you. Checks for parking tickets, traffic fines, and alerts you before your insurance expires.
Honest limitations: I'm building on top of government systems I don't control. If the government portals go down, the checks pause until they're back.
I'd love feedback, is this something you'd actually use? Drop a comment and I'll share the link.
