Late Term Abortions in Cases Where the Fetus is Suffering

I came across a thread on Facebook recently that absolutely floored me. Obviously, there's been a lot of discourse circulating around states enacting "abortion up to birth" laws and this post was claiming that there is *never* a valid reason to terminate the fetus before delivering it. I countered this argument with a few examples where the fetus would be suffering in utero for the entire second half of pregnancy (24+ weeks) and is guaranteed to die after birth (cases like osteogenesis imperfecta type 2 where the fetus will feel its bones breaking in utero until delivery and will die a painful death shortly after birth, or intra-uterine inoperable tumors that will suffocate the fetus if allowed to progress to full term, etc.).

I originally assumed the *objectively* correct choice would be the one that results in the least suffering for the fetus, which would be a lethal injection in utero followed by inducing labor like any other delivery. This would spare the fetus any further suffering, spare it the pain of childbirth (imagine an OI-2 fetus being pushed through the birth canal), spare the mother the pain and recovery of a C-section (alternative to vaginal birth), and spare both parents the trauma of watching their baby die in their arms after birth (which some parents may prefer, and some may not, and both are valid). This would essentially be a mercy killing in the form of inducing a stillbirth. I was quite surprised when pro-lifers began blowing up the thread with responses basically saying they would absolutely let the fetus suffer for 10-20 weeks in utero, either on the off-chance of a misdiagnosis or simply to avoid having a *gasp* abortion.

I eventually gave up on responding to that thread because I was so floored by the responses, but the topic is an interesting one to delve into and I feel like this community can engage with it in a much more thoughtful manner. So, tell me, PC and PL, do you think lethal injection is a morally acceptable form of abortion to spare a fetus that will suffer in utero if carried to full term?

Note that many of the commenters assumed for some reason that the fetus would be dismembered alive in the process?? That is absolutely NOT the case. I am specifically referring to a lethal injection followed by induced labor. If dismemberment is necessary, the fetus is probably already dead and there's a valid reason why this is the safest way to remove it.

Meadowlands Farm - Spring Year 2

So I finally pulled myself away from my Forest Farm long enough to give Meadowlands a chance and I think I'm liking it so far! It definitely caters to my animal-loving sensibilities with all the extra space.

Tour:

  1. Seasonal farm below farm house (main farm)
  2. Tapped trees surrounding a mushroom log
  3. Slime hutch with six lightning rods
  4. Upper shed is for storage and workbench
  5. Left/lower shed is for kegs and jars
  6. Six fish ponds (two are left empty in prep for Ginger Island later)
  7. Honey farms with blue jazz
  8. Left-most farm with mill is for wheat, but it's a potato farm for now until I can plant the wheat in Summer and Fall
  9. Greenhouse has cranberries and blueberries for now until I find that elusive ancient seed (seriously, this is the longest it's ever taken me to find it)
  10. Left barns are for pigs (I've got 8 out of the 24 I'll need, piggies are expensive)
  11. Coops have a couple chickens and ducks but will be swapped with dinos once I find the egg (another artifact that's eluding me)
  12. Right barns have the cows and goats, but they'll get replaced with ostriches.... one day...

What do you think I should do with some of these awkward spaces in between the bigger areas? I know I still need the golden clock and the obelisks, not sure where I'll end up putting them. Maybe the obelisks can go behind the right-side barns and the clock can go next to the greenhouse. Ideas?

First Year on the Meadowlands Farm

After years of being a hardcore Forest Farm addict, I finally gave the new Meadowlands Farm a chance. I can definitely say I'm overwhelmed with the amount of space I have to work with.

Photos include Year 1 Spring, Fall, and Winter, and Year 2 Spring. I forgot to get a screenshot in Summer, I was on the grind lol.

Any ideas what to do with some of these awkward spaces in between? The farms may need some rethinking once I get around to replacing the sprinklers with iridium (I focus more on animals than crops, as you can tell) but that's a problem for future me...

Norm Still Paints the Samson with Trudy's War Paint Colors

This may have been mentioned before but I went on a deep-dive into Norm's comic adventures and saw that it's believed Trudy taught him how to fly a Samson. It reminded me of this sweet detail from AWoW, where we see Norm arrive at the Metkayina village in a Samson painted with Trudy's war paint colors, blue and white. I love that he pays this homage to his fallen love and the woman who taught him how to fly. I wonder if he's ever told his Na'vi wife why he paints it that way. I'm sure it's painful for him to talk about.

Tips for Na'vi Only Playthrough?

Jumping on the bandwagon for the popular "Na'vi Only" challenge and wanted to make a thread for tips and tricks. Different people play it differently but here's the rule set I'm using:

  1. No RDA weapons, gear, mods, etc. Everything must be Na'vi style.

  2. No SID unless strictly required for the story. This means no research outposts, no data collection spots, no hacking (unless it's the only way to clear an RDA base), no opening RDA containers that require hacking, etc. I might lift the rule on research outposts solely at the very end of the game just so I can 100% the save but it has to be the VERY last thing I do.

  3. No fast travel. All travel must be on foot or mounted.

*Edit to add Rule 4: No RDA healing gel or rations. Only natural things found in Pandora. I might make an exception for polymer sticks because they're literally just sticks and I'm not sure if I can feasibly carry enough sticks and ammo to clear some of the bigger bases. We'll see. For now, I'm defaulting to no polymer sticks unless I just can't do it without them.

If anybody else has some rules they want to throw in, I'm open to suggestions. These are the only big ones I could think of.

As for tips and tricks, I'm open to anything in general, but I'm also particularly curious how you pace yourself in a challenge like this. Do you push through the main story until you get your ikran? Do you take a break in between every quest to craft and cook? Do you pick up side quests and complete them as you go or do you just pick up a bunch and complete them later on?

Hit me with your Na'vi only guidance!

Cat Got Locked in Shed

I have two outdoor cats that are about a year old. Before anyone starts, I live in a camper with two dogs and a cat already, and these two girls showed up here about a year ago. We have a large abandoned house on the property they mostly keep to, so they have shelter and an insulated cat house inside. They get fed and watered twice a day and routinely checked on. They've never even had a tick.

My boyfriend has a box trailer he works out of like a workshop. He was in there the day before yesterday working. I told him to TRIPLE check before closing it, and he did, but Nami is a quiet, sneaky girl and I guess she was inside.

I couldn't find her yesterday but, again, she's a sneaky one so it's not that uncommon to not see her for a while. What concerned me is when I still didn't see her this morning. So I went looking, and my dog was really interested in the trailer, and sure enough, out she came.

She had a HUGE glob of yellow snot stuck to her nose and her left cheek looks swollen. She's otherwise normal. She's eating but not drinking. She can breathe through her nose but occasionally opens her mouth. She's making congested noises.

The vet doesn't open for another half hour, I've already left a message. Just wondering what I can expect and what I can do for her before the vet opens up. She's stuck to my hip now and I'm afraid to leave her alone for a second.
