How to attach a small pouch to HPG Tarahumara without grimlocks.

I’m attaching a small Kifaru pouch to my Hill People Gear Tarahumara pack. I don’t want to use Grimlocs. You can see in the image I’m attaching that the pouch is going through the Hill People Gear shoulder strap links rather than the little tab loops on the sides of them — the strap links are a bit too close together for the width of the Kifaru pouch and the little tab looks would be better because they match the width of the Kifaru pouch much better.

What I want to know is: are there any metal clips or attachments I could use that would loop through both the tab loops on the top sides of the HPG bag and the loops on the Kifaru pouch? I’d rather use metal than plastic, because the little pouch can get a bit heavy sometimes.

Another question: there’s a flexible plastic sheet that fits into the slot in the back panel of the Tarahumara to give it some shape and rigidity. This sheet is a little too flexible. Does anyone have ideas for a more rigid material I could use instead — something that would hold the bag’s shape and stop it folding in on itself when the top pouch is a bit heavier than ideal?
