Anything I should know about the M4-P

Picked up a confirmed DAG cla’d M4-P with a Voightlander Vintage ii (35mm) for 2650$. I was quite literally in process of ordering an M4-R from eBay when I saw the sellers listing on Marketplace.

He had receipts, and I was able to call the store and confirmed it was serviced last year

Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 Dual-Range Lens with deepish scraches on front element

Looking for some advice. I just picked up this Summicron 50mm f/2 Dual-Range Lens off ebay for £520 which was a pretty good deal. It was advertised as very good condition with no haze or fungus but some light cleaning marks.

After receiving it looks like there is pretty big circlar scratches on the front element thaat i can feel with my nail. Everywhere is telling me these are not a big deal and is common and will not affect my images. The seller as said i can return it but i really dont want too, but if people say its bad i will.

Any advice would be amazing!

Trading all these for a Q3. Mistake?

Over the last 7 years, I’ve come to realize I just want one quality camera with a great 35mm lens. Now that I have a family, I have no time for film. I also find myself wishing I had autofocus so I could easily give my camera to a friend if I want a photo taken with me in it. I tossed up a Sony RX1R but having used Sonys in the past, I didn’t like how flimsy they’ve felt. I also considered a Fujifilm GX100RF, but it’s not a good fit for my main subject, my kids. Q3 seems to tick all the marks if you include the 35mm crop. Any thoughts?

Edit to add: in case I wasn’t clear with my post. Buying or trading for another film camera does me no good. I already don’t use the film cameras. All these cameras have ended up mostly sitting around because I use my phone to take pictures of my kids. If the 262 had autofocus, I would be using that. Taking indoor action shots is just not fun with a fully manual camera, too many misses. I’d also be gaining 8k video which is not something I wanted in the past (hence the 262) but now having a family, taking quality videos seems attractive.

Can I fix this at home or should I take this in to the Leica store?

Hey!

The rubber on the eye piece of my Leica Q Type 116 has started to detach. Trying to figure out the best way to fix it. Anyone have experience fixing something like this at home or do you think I'm better off taking it into the Leica store to be looked at? (I live in NYC)

Any chance eye-detection focus confirmation comes to the M-EV series in the future?

I'm a Q user, looking forward to using the M series in the future. I'm open-minded about the M-EV concept.

One easy win I see is the eye-detection manual focus confirmation implemented in Nikon Zf. You focus manually, and the camera simply confirms focus on the subject's eye with a green box. It adds zero weight to the setup, avoids interrupting your framing (no need to punch in/magnify), and is far more reliable than focus peaking at wide apertures.

Having this feature would make an M-EV much more appealing to me. I think the feature alone will greatly expand the MF user base. Is this a realistic feature to expect from Leica on future EVF-based M bodies?

Talk me out of the Leica CL digital

Ever since I found out it existed, the CL has been pretty much my dream camera. A body like the Q or M series, but with an interchangeable lens mount? It seems like the perfect red-dot camera, especially with the EVF that the TL series lacked. After coming into some extra money, I'm in the position to possibly buy one, but I can't help but think this might not be the best use of nearly two thousand dollars. It's APS-C, 24MP, and nearly 10 years old. For the same money, I could afford something like the Lumix S1 and a solid amount of pro lenses, but I'm missing out on the portability and access to the TL lens lineup in the CL. Could anyone who has owned/owns the CL weigh in and let me know how the experience is, and if you'd take it over a modern more "professional" full frame?

For reference, I've owned an X-Pro 3 and an A7, and found the A7 far too clinical to enjoy, while the X-Pro 3 was amazing and I still miss it.

Going to try out some different lenses

I've not got any M mount ultra wides yet so I thought I'd try out my Nikon fit 20mm and maybe my 16mm fisheye too, before I commit to buying a specific M mount or LTM lens

Upgraded from the M240 to the M10 a year ago — it finally feels like the completed digital Leica.

have had my Leica M10 for about a year now after upgrading from my trusted Leica M240. I have to say, the M10 is the perfect digital Leica—it feels like the completed version of the M240. I really enjoy the handling, the better ISO performance, and the bigger viewfinder. The only thing I find a bit worse is the battery life, but if you have two batteries, it's no problem. Sometimes I miss my brassing M240, but I'm super pleased. I hope my M10 lasts the next 20 years. I made a full review on my channel in case you are interested.

A dot on my Leica q

Hi. I’ve been the owner of a Leica Q for three years now, but I’m thinking about switching it up and selling it to get a new camera. Unfortunately, a few days ago I noticed a small dot/bubble in the lens that I don’t recall seeing before.
I talked to someone who said that some cameras are actually born with this.
Does anyone know if it’s normal for a Leica Q to have a small dot/bubble like this in the lens?
Note: You can’t see it in the pictures.

Advice needed: Leicaflex SL2 , M6

I've been wanting to get into film photography for a while now and have finally committed to doing so. I've been shooting with digital M bodies for the better part of a decade now (started with a Type 240 and currently have a M10-P, M-10 Mono, and M11-P).

I've narrowed my options to the Leicaflex SL2 and the M6, but have been going back and forth between the two. I'm also considering buying this clean M4-P that's available locally and priced quite aggressively - I'd likely buy an external light meter if I went that route.

On one hand, I'm incredibly intrigued by the SL2's reputation (Ansel Adams is quoted as saying it's the finest mechanical SLR ever crafted) and its tank like build quality. On the other hand, I already own 10 m lenses and very much enjoy the rangefinder experience (also why I'd go with the SL2 over the SL).

I've never shot film before apart from disposable cameras and am curious to hear y'all's opinions as to which route would be a better fit/intro into the analog world. Also, assuming I'm not absolutely hopeless in shooting film, I'm fairly sure I'll acquire both eventually.

Many thanks in advance!

What's the temp on the M262 market?

I have an M Typ 262 that I've been going back and forth on selling but when I try to do any kind of "market research" on them prices are all over the map. I can't get a clear read on how people view the M262. I personally think it's a great M. I like that it's basically a stripped down M240 with even better battery life, but what do others make of it?

What smaller autofocus L-mount lens options do you use?

Since the latest SL3 firmware, I find myself reaching for my SL3 over my Q2 more and more when I want autofocus. But unlike the Q, the SL3 with a Leica lens is much heavier; when Lumix released their 40mm f/2, I got curious about whether it would bridge that gap enough to give my SL3 a good lightweight travel option.

I’ve been using it for several weeks now, and I found that on the SL3, this Lumix lens balances surprisingly well. It successfully knocks the weight down to a very manageable level for longer walks, and I like that it allows me to use smaller bags than when I have my 50mm APO or the 24-90mm attached. I did a write up along with some sample photos if anyone is interested in this lens here: https://www.konstantinkokoris.com/reviews/lens-review-panasonic-lumix-40m-f2

Aside from using M-mount lenses, has anyone else been using this or found a smaller lens that they like to use on their SL?

Leica M6 – rewind knob doesn’t turn when advancing film

I’ve noticed a strange issue with my Leica M6 that I haven’t had before.
When I load a new roll of film and advance the film, the film is definitely being transported, but the rewind knob/crank on the left side does not turn at all.
If I then gently turn the rewind knob in the rewind direction to take up the slack, it starts working normally again. After doing this, the rewind knob turns when I advance the film.
I’ve had this happen with the last three rolls, although I’ve been loading film the same way for a long time without ever having this issue.
At first glance, everything seems mechanically fine and the film appears to advance correctly. But I’m wondering whether this is normal due to slack in the film cassette, or whether it could indicate a problem with the rewind mechanism.
Has anyone experienced this with an M6? Is it normal to simply take up the slack by gently turning the rewind knob, or should I have the camera checked?
Thanks!

Leica M6 shutter won't release when film is loaded (works fine empty) – Tulip / take-up spool slips back slightly

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a used Leica M6. Without film, everything works as expected: the advance stroke is smooth and the shutter fires at all speeds.
However, as soon as Iload a roll of film, the shutter button won't release. When checking the advance cycle with the door open/front removed, the advance lever completes its throw, but under the tension of the film, the take-up tulip slips back just a tiny bit. This slight backlash seems to prevent the shutter release mechanism from completing its latch.
(Attached is a video showing the behavior).
Has anyone encountered this specific issue? Is this usually a worn friction clutch, a loose retaining ring/washer under the rewind crank, or an anti-reverse ratchet that needs adjustment?
Thanks for your help!
