Zurich people: would you move from Seefeld to Zollikerberg?

I’m considering moving from a small 2-room apartment in Seefeld to a much bigger place in Zollikerberg and would love a reality check from people who know both areas. I need to take a decision very quickly as I’ve been offered an apartment.

Current place, Seefeld
CHF 2,500/month
Small 2-room apartment
Top floor, no lift
Shared rooftop
No balcony
Shared laundry
Gets brutally hot in summer
But: amazing location, lake nearby, very walkable and everything on my doorstep

Potential move, Zollikerberg

Around CHF 2,800/month
Much larger duplex
Balcony
Own washing machine/dryer
Lift - I don’t have a car currently but open to it.
More space, quieter and greener
Lower taxes
Still connected to Zurich by public transport

But obviously much less central and less of that “walk out the door and you’re in the middle of things” lifestyle

I work from home quite a bit, so having more space would genuinely improve my day-to-day life. But I’ve lived centrally in Zurich for years and I’m wondering whether I’d underestimate how much I’d miss Seefeld. I’m 49 for context and most people in my block are at least 15 years younger than me.

For anyone who has made a similar city → Zollikon/Zollikerberg move: did the extra space and quality of life outweigh losing the central location? Anything you wish you’d considered beforehand?

Edit: I am slightly neurotic and find change hard - for those who think this is a no-brainer.. 🫠🥹

Looking for a sense check on my investment strategy (49F, Switzerland)

Hi everyone,

I’m a 49-year-old woman living in Switzerland. I only started investing recently, so I’m aware I’m late to the game and still learning. I’d really appreciate a sense check on whether my overall strategy makes sense, and where you think I could improve. I was married previously and left this to my now ex-husband to take care of and now find myself a bit lost.

Current situation
CHF 100,000 in cash savings
CHF 43,000 in a UBS Managed Growth portfolio
CHF 65,000 in Pillar 3a (split between UBS and VIAC)
IBKR: CHF 7,500 invested in VWCE
Investing CHF 500/month into VWCE
No debt.

My investment knowledge is fairly basic. My goal isn’t to beat the market. I want a simple, long-term strategy that I can stick with for the next 15 to 20 years.

A few questions:

Am I holding too much cash?

Does it make sense to keep both the UBS Managed Growth portfolio and invest in VWCE, or am I just paying unnecessary fees for overlap?

Should I be investing more than CHF 500/month given the amount of cash I have sitting on the sidelines?

Would you gradually invest part of the CHF 100k into VWCE (or another ETF), or would you leave a larger cash buffer at my age?

Is there anything obvious that I’m missing or doing poorly?

I’m not looking for stock picks or anything complicated. I’d just like honest feedback on whether this is a sensible long-term plan for someone starting relatively late.

Edit: I earn 180k CHF with a poss. bonus of up to 20% of my salary and no kids.

My taxes are fairly high as I live in Stadt Zurich.

Thanks!

Current apartment reality check needed

I currently live in Seefeld and pay CHF 2,500 for a 2-room apartment. It’s a good apartment and I know this may sound like a very Zurich first-world problem, but after several years here I’m thinking about moving somewhere slightly bigger.

My wish list is fairly simple:

• A bit more space
• My own washing machine
• A lift

I’m looking in Zurich Stadt and wondering how realistic this is with a budget of around CHF 3,000/month.
For those who have moved recently:

How difficult is the rental market right now?

Is CHF 3,000 a realistic budget for a decent 2.5-3 room apartment in Zurich Stadt?

How long did your search take?

Are there particular areas I should be looking at?

I fully appreciate that I’m fortunate to already have a nice apartment and perhaps I’m a little bougie when it comes to wanting a washing machine and a lift. 😅

But I’m curious whether what I’m looking for is realistic in today’s market or whether I should adjust my expectations.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s searched recently.
