Happy Tanabata everyone! Today 8/19/2026 is the 7th Day of 7th Month of this Lunar Year

Happy Tanabata everyone! Today 8/19/2026 is the 7th Day of 7th Month of this Lunar Year

The last time I was in DisneySea in the summer, I put a wish on the "Wishing Place" Tanabata tree. Everyone seems to celebrate Tanabata on a different day, but today, August 19, 2026 is officially the 7th Day of the 7th Month of this Lunar Year, so happy Tanabata.

Here are some fun facts from the internet:

  • The tale behind Tanabta comes from the Chinese Qixi Festival (“The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”) and was brought to Japan around the 8th century, where it blended with local customs and became Tanabata (“Evening of the Seventh”).
  • Orihime, the Heavenly Emperor’s daughter and a divine weaver, lives beside the Milky Way until her father arranges her marriage to Hikoboshi, a celestial cowherd. After they wed, they become so consumed by love that Orihime abandons her weaving and Hikoboshi neglects his oxen, angering the Emperor, who separates them on opposite banks of the river and allows them to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month, when, moved by Orihime’s tears, a flock of magpies forms a living bridge with their wings so the star‑crossed lovers can reunite for a single night before returning to their duties.
  • In the sky, Orihime and Hikoboshi are represented by the stars Vega and Altair, separated by the Milky Way.

Did you also grow up celebrating this festival in your home country? It is very romantic!

Does this count as a hidden Mickey 😂 Ristorante di Canaletto

My absolute favorite cold-weather comfort food, the "Cream of Mushroom Soup with Truffle Accent" (or "truffle soup" as I call it), is making its return at Ristorante di Canaletto from Sep 15 2026!

Also, while scrolling through the new menu, I spotted this Pancetta and Turnip Top Pizza and only after a closer look did I realise… there’s a Mickey there! I’m not sure if it officially counts as a “Hidden Mickey”, but it’s definitely hiding in plain sight.

Remember Me/Coco Light Up Popcorn Bucket Coming September 17!

Never managed to get the Rapunzel light up lantern popcorn bucket, but this new light up one is pretty cute too! 😍

It’s coming on 17 September 2026 for ¥3,800 and will be available at both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.

The “Pumpkin with a Ghost” bucket is also returning this year for ¥3,400, from 15 September, but that one is exclusive to Big Pop. I think I will resist the temptation and skip this old one and go for the new bucket this time! 🎃✨

Oops! What did Minnie and Pluto leave behind

Those Tokyo Disney folks can always be trusted to issue hilariously hard to understand “safety” posters every season, but here we are for the summer.

So what’s the story on this one? Did Pluto get his tail caught in the door again? Did Minnie leave Mickey behind on the monorail (kidding, obviously he should know to get off)? Or did Minnie forget half her luggage on the monorail? Judging by how Minnie’s practically leaping, I’m betting it was Mickey?

Ever watched your Mickey Balloon float away? Problem solved

Put this in the column of "solving a problem I didn't even know I had".

A stylish “bracelet” went on sale yesterday July 30th 2026. It can be worn on your wrist or secured to your pram, making it easy to hook your Mickey balloon to.

What will they come up with next!

Indoor shelter sheltering in effect: cannot go outdoors to avoid being struck by lightning

This is all over socials right now, apparently due to thunderclouds forming over the TDR area, outdoor rides are all suspended and indoor sheltering instructions are in effect: guests are being asked to enter the nearest building and not to leave.

There was some poor sods who just finished their Splash Mountain soaking wet, and now is stuck in the cold air conditioned areas. Better safe than sorry.

Does this happen often?

New Disney motif pins! Can you name them all? (Where is Meeko at TDR?)

Another new release (just out last week July 16). These ones are better than the batch a few months ago (with Mickey), because there are so many park motifs, like the chicken leg, Alien Mochi/little green dumplings, and Sindbad!

Can you tell where they are all from? I cam almost name them all, except does Meeko appear in the park?

Still don't love that these are blind bags (each bag is ¥1,300 with 2 mystery pins inside), but at least they allow you to buy the whole set for ¥7,800...

Ride Poster Tote Bags (Blind Bags though!)

Tokyo Disney Resort just dropped tote bags with attraction poster designs. Initially I thought it was a bit Etsy but I have come around to the idea!

Here’s the catch! They are sold as blind bags. ¥1,400 each, but luckily you can get a full set for ¥8,400 if you don't want to take chances with duplicates and all that.

The designs are PhiharMagic, Pooh's Hunny Hunt, Haunted Mansion, Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror and Sindbad!

Tower of Terror "Glow in the Dark" Magnet on sale July 16th 2026!

Okay, this is one of those little park details I absolutely adore, and now it’s coming home with us!

The DisneySea "Hotel Hightower" sign (you know, the one that mysteriously transforms into “Tower of Terror” with that spooky green glow) has always been such a fun, eerie touch in the park. And now it’s been turned into the cutest fridge magnet, perfect for adding a little Disney magic to your kitchen, if you’re brave enough to handle the chills!

It releases tomorrow, July 16, 2026, and I already know this is going straight onto my must-buy list. I hope it is still available when I visit in a few months!

Teacup Gentleman Protocol: Etiquette Demonstration

A fun little video on social today capturing Rapunzel and Cinderella hopping off Alice’s Tea Party at Tokyo Disneyland. As someone who’s spent way too many park days coaxing tired kids out of ride vehicles, I couldn’t help smiling when Flynn aka Eugene and the Prince didn’t just wander off, but both instinctively offered a hand (or two) to help their companions step out of the teacup, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

It’s such a small moment, but it’s exactly the kind of storybook “manners” you hope the kids notice, and it feels so perfectly in character even when they’re just moving between rides. Not sure Rapunzel really needed the help, to be honest, her character is just as athletic as Eugene really, but I’ll never complain about a bit of extra chivalry at the end of a spin.

Salted Caramel: “Big Pop” popcorn arrives at DisneySea for the first time! (until 5pm)

The one is pretty unusual!

https://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/food/4847/

New “Big Pop style” salted caramel popcorn has landed at DisneySea and it’s limited edition so try it out if you're lucky enough to be there for the summer. From July 1 to September 14 2026, the popcorn wagon in front of Arabian Coast is selling salted caramel popcorn that comes pre‑popped in a bag, similar to the style only sold at The Big Pop in Tokyo Disneyland.

Unlike the usual carts that scoop warm popcorn into boxes or buckets, this one is a pre-popped snack that is made off location. Available from park opening until 5:00 p.m only; after that, the wagon switches over to curry popcorn for the rest of the night.

If you love Big Pop’s "fluffier" mushroom style popcorn richer with the more “gourmet” salted caramel, here's your chance.

Final weeks of Aquatopia featuring Special Photo Props and Free Sticker!

If you’re heading to DisneySea this summer, there’s a really fun little bonus happening over at Aquatopia right now.

With the ride in its final two months before permanently closing after 9/14/2026 (and currently running the “Soaked” version), guests are starting to spot some special extras being shared on Japanese social media. There are themed signs you can hold up for photos, and even a collectible sticker being handed out during this period.

If you’re visiting this summer, definitely swing by and see if you can grab a sticker and snap a photo! It’s such a sweet little way to remember the attraction before it’s gone.

Tokyo Disneyland Drone Show Is Coming (and Fantasyland Closes Early)

Tokyo Disneyland tip for summer: the new Reach for the Stars: Everlasting Dreams drone finale is starting soon and it looks absolutely magical over Cinderella Castle. There has been some amazing spoiler test footage circulating on X, but I won't ruin it for you guys (just the official TDR photo here).

This is the special finale version of Tokyo Disneyland’s nighttime spectacular, running from July 2 through September 14, 2026. It extends the usual show to about 25 minutes total.

But heads‑up for anyone with sleepy kiddos or detailed touring plans: on nights when the drone version runs, routes through Fantasyland are closed from 8:30 p.m. until park close because that’s where the drones launch. The pic suggests things like Haunted Mansion and Small World might not be accessible.

So get your Fantasyland rides and castle‑side photos done earlier in the evening, then plan a more “front of park” night routine around the show so you’re not surprised by blocked paths at bedtime o’clock.

The Award for most unhinged DisneySea reference on broadcast US TV goes to...

So I just went down a rabbit hole watching the Las Culturistas Culture Awards 2026 and… honestly, what did I just watch?

I feel like I need to sit down with a cup of tea after that one.

We’re talking:

  • Ben Platt randomly singing “Smelly Cat” from FRIENDS
  • Bowen and Matt performing the Pokémon theme song… with Pikachu
  • Miss Piggy showing up, karate chopping the hosts, promoting the rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at WDW

And then, this is the part that really made me pause mid-laundry fold, they had an “award” called the Tokyo DisneySea Land of Great Beauty Award… which was basically an ad for Roku City.

I had to rewind because I genuinely thought I missed something. As someone who has spent far too much time planning Tokyo Disney trips, I cannot for the life of me figure out how that came to be. Is it just random? Product placement? Surely OLC is not actually thinking this kind of thing is good to reach Gen Z? Or did someone just say “sure, why not” and move on?

For anyone outside the US, this whole show is basically a fever dream version of an awards night, over 100 ridiculous categories like “Best Sauce” or “Most Iconic Building”, and it somehow gets real celebrities to participate.

I’ve seen some strange things in my time (including actual Japanese variety TV), but this might genuinely be up there.

Has anyone else watched this? Or am I just sleep-deprived and overthinking a parody show?

Earthquake abruptly stopped Reach for the Stars tonight (Jun 16)

There was a magnitude 5.5 earthquake at 7:46 p.m. affecting Tokyo earlier tonight (Jun 16), right in the middle of the Reach for the Stars show, and it had to be stopped halfway through.

Hoping everyone in the area is safe and doing okay.

Here’s a news link for anyone wanting more details!

And thank you to satotetsu1118 for capturing and sharing the moment on X.

Vintage Popcorn Buckets Capsule Toy (Coming Jun 16)

Honestly, I’m usually first in line for anything Tokyo Disney throws at us, but those DisneySea Sparkling Jubilee “shopping bag” capsule toys? Not it.

These retro new popcorn bucket designs coming June 16? Something I would happily donate my 6 x ¥100 coins to.

But the official IG says they’re only being sold via the TDR app. Not in the parks. I think that means not for international visitors and behind the usual TDR shopping Japan-resident only digital wall. Why is life so unfair?

Anyway, if anyone has cracked the code on how to get these without relocating to Tokyo, I’m listening.

Donald Duck Birthday Sighting in Toontown (June 9)

It’s Donald Duck’s birthday today (June 9), and he and Daisy made a surprise appearance over in Toontown to greet fans. Looks like such a sweet little moment.

A little Mysterious Island find from today

I know a few people here have said there’s never quite enough Mysterious Island merch, so I thought I’d pass this along. Someone on X spotted these at Emporio today, and it’s so nice to see Mt Prometheus finally getting a bit of attention.

Still not at Nautilus Gifts, I know, I know... missed opportunity!

If you’ve been hoping to bring a little piece of that area home, this might be worth checking out next time you’re in the park.

Credit to legolike07 on X for sharing the find!

Almost thought paper FastPass was back. got excited for nothing

Hi all, bit of a random one from our trip planning brain spiral. I saw a photo floating around of a whole crowd lining up at the old paper FastPass machines and for a second thought, “Wait, did they bring them back??” Obviously not, just me getting my hopes up.

From what I can tell, it might be something to do with collecting stickers for the Sparkling Jubilee booklet? But I’m not totally sure how it works or what the line is actually for.
