Building a cross cribbage board. Applied a thin coat of poly and then realized I meant to tint that middle square darker with natura one coat walnut.

It's still wet. Do I let it dry entirely, sand the middle square, tint and re-poly? I don't think I can just put the natura over poly, right? And I think I have to wait for it to dry or else sanding dust will get caught in the poly coat. Am I wrong?
