Champ Car Arrive & Drive

I’m interested in doing a Champ Car event next year in the Virginia region and trying to gather as much info as I can before committing to buying all the safety gear. The one thing I’m not clear on even after DM’ing with a couple of teams is - how does insurance work?

The teams I talked to offer an insurance add on, but it is always heavily limited. One example is - for an extra $500, you are covered for any damage up to $2500. With current prices, just about any contact is going to set you back more than $2500, and that is a much worse exchange rate than most insurers (pay $500 to protect $2500). I don’t mean to disparage the teams I understand they are trying to run a business and mitigate their own risks, there just has to be a better option.

I buy track insurance for every track day I go to. I know they are different events and I am insuring my own vehicle at track days, but does anyone know if it’s possible to get a similar policy direct from an insurer for an arrive and drive event? If not, what other alternatives are there?

Of course I don’t intend to damage the car at all, but I have no control over what kind of other wackos will be out on track at a no race license required endurance event!
