people ruin their lives by setting unrealistic goals and refusing to settle for less

prime example: i have a friend who wants to be a dermatologist. didn't work hard enough in undergrad, isn't working hard enough in post-bacc, is not going to get into medical school. so they're in constant limbo and can't get something going. but they also won't pack it in and get a generic job because they think it's below them (constantly degrading nurses, PAs, the less glamorous health care roles).

there comes a point where "chasing your dreams" is just indulging your ego and preventing you from having a better life.

slowly becoming the exact sort of corporate shill i've hated my entire life

I don't really feel good about my work. at best i feel neutral and find it somewhat intellectually stimulating. more often i feel awful, that my employer is contributing to the destruction of the country and just sort of stripping meet from the bones before it all collapses. if the job market weren't shit i would leave but it's scary out there and ig im a bit of a coward

i feel like both ends of the political spectrum are becoming increasingly anti-race mixing for equally stupid reasons

insane how many mainstream nazis there are now

up until about 2023 it felt like they only existed in niche areas online. but that racist streamer that walks into bars and says the N-word raised over $100k for his legal defense in 1 day, and the comments attached to the largest donations are chilling. really freaks me concerning the direction of the country.

the government challenging birthright citizenship is a more formalized reflection of the same impulse running through our country. I've read a lot of hannah arendt this year and i think americans are naive to think that fascism couldnt develop here, rapidly, and destroy everything we love

which country has the highest quality of life for the lowest cost of living

I mean if i cashed out all my assets in the US, bought a house in the country, invested whatever else I had to draw some passive income, and just worked a normal, low stress job. im not an academic but have an advanced degree and would be open to teaching
