Just started and I’m miserable
So far the pay is low, the benefits don’t seem that competitive and actually lose you potential retirement income if you don’t stay. I was told I’d have flexible time to come in because our division is RTO and they took that away and are making me come in at peak traffic times so my commute is 45-1 hour each way. I’m not getting enough sleep because I have to be up so early to accommodate their work start, I’m missing work outs, and have stopped hanging out after work because I’m always exhausted and have to be in bed by 9 or 10 or I can’t wake up early enough so now my work life balance is shit.
Is working for the state even worth it anymore for new employees? People made it sound like getting in was this big deal, but from what I can tell it’s a low pay job with bad work life balance inside a rigid structure that doesn’t care about your mental or physical health and there’s literally nothing to do to distract you during the day but sit at your computer and wiggle your mouse so they don’t think you’re “away” even though they’ve given you no assignments.
This job market is terrible and I might not be able to keep this one for long because of how badly it’s tanking my mental health.
