Having my Batocera Drive plugged in makes my computer not boot

I created a fresh install of Batocera and spent tons of time getting all my games added and scraping art work. Then I received an adapter in the mail that in theory allowed me to plug a GPU into a riser that plugged into the M.2 slot. Long story short that didn’t work at all. So I went back and plugged in my Batocera install running off an NVME and after the “booting Batocera.linux” prompt it would just got to a black screen. I took tons of trouble shooting steps including reseating the NVME, clearing CMOS, resetting the BIOs. Nothing worked

So at this point I decided to remove the NVME and put it in a usb enclosure to boot it off my main PC. But now that PC just boots into a black screen. If I unplug the USB cable it boots at normal. So I went into bios so I could get to the boot menu and plug it in. The second I do it completely freezes my entire PC. I unplug it and all the keys I pressed while it was plugged in all suddenly get pressed in quick succession. Any help or advice here?
