what was your final price

I understand any amount of money is worth walking again but I'm still depressed. Insurance helped, but the ER alone was thousands due to a high deductible. Then there was all the other bills for the surgery itself, for the anestheologist, for surgery center, for everything I've needed to survive this debacle.... this is thousands of dollars I never chose to pay. That's life, I know, that's why we save money but FCK this is so depressing.

Payment plans don't make me feel any better, thousands of dollars paid over a year is still thousands of dollars I ain't getting back.

I feel like I don't see a lot of people depressed about the cost of this? I really don't want to be ungrateful for all the medical care I've gotten but the price is just another slice in this shit sandwich. That could have been spent on something fun or useful, or just made me feel better to see the savings.

This is just life, huh.

I don’t really want to quit but financially I just can’t bear it anymore

This has been one of the worst summers of my life. I broke a bone (while drunk) and that cost and is costing $1000s… needed a new laptop and that was hundreds…abused DoorDash while drunk while immobilized and living alone also easily hundreds…

I’ve never been down so bad and I’m not struggling but I’ve lost so much money on top of my usual expenses and I’m so demoralized. A good amount of that was alcohol combined with shitty luck but I’m crying. I ordered easily $75 worth of food last weekend and I don’t even remember it. I had to throw stuff away because I ordered and forgot.

I’ve always drank this much but never to this point of being fat, stupid and miserable except maybe after my DUI. But at least I was physically able to work overtime, at least I saved like a mfer in anticipation. At least there was a light at the end. This is just such a series of stupid decisions kicking myself when I’m already down.

I deleted the DoorDash app but after catching another bag I missed and checking my credit card bill from this month, I’m crying. It’s all so stupid. I don’t want to quit drinking bc it’s really the only thing I’ve got but idk what else to do.

Miserable sobriety before I break another bone or go broke?? I fucking hate being sober man I really do hate it so much I’m sorry I cannot keep going like this but I went sober before. Rawdogging life is miserable for me
Sorry I’m crashing out over DoorDash but here we are

Did the foot on your broken side get hairier?? anyone else?

I have brown hair and pale skin, my body hair isn't super dark and thick but it is visible. That's always included some hair on the tops of my feet and my toes, which I have never shaved because it's not that obvious and if you stare at my feet long enough to notice we probably don't share the same interests.

However, I swear to god that there is now more hair on the broken side than the other side. I could be losing it, it could be that I'm just looking at that foot more because of the break, but I swear it's true. Is the blood flow from swelling making it hairier? Is that a thing? Am I losing my mind?

8wk post bimal fracture, 6wk post-op; oh my god walking without crutches!! Instant life quality upgrade!!

everyone's journey is different but being able to walk with both hands free after TWO MONTHS is just such a game changer. I've said in the past, I don't care about wearing a boot! I'll wear a boot whenever! It was the damn crutches ruining my life!

Living alone up a few flights of stairs with no elevator has been a nightmare. It meant no laundry, no shopping, and no garbage disposal beyond what I could crutch downstairs in a backpack or overspend on delivery for. I can even open doors, you guys!! Open doors! I can open the door to go to work!

fck crutches.

anyway is pt worth the time? got recommended 2x a week for 6w and that seems like a lot. I never had athletic hobbies so walking normal is my ultimate goal.

Forcing positivity. when I'm more mobile, I will make all the medical appointments since my (thousands of dollars) deductible/OOP was met!

I'm talking dermatologist, gynecologist....!

All right, those are the only guys I can think of. Any other ideas to insurancemaxx for the rest of the year?

(For the uninitiated,/non-Americans, don't suggest vision, pharmaceutical or dental care. Those are entirely separate programs because the brain, eyes and teeth aren't covered under general health care.)

everyone just asks about the boot?

"Doesn't the boot get hot to wear?" "How long do you have to be in the boot?" "They made you wear a boot?"

I'm just confused by this. I don't give a shit about wearing nice shoes or my shin being less sweaty. Out of everything the boot is very visible but it's been the least of my problems! I'm still on crutches! I can't use either of my hands when ambulating, that's much more frustrating than wearing a damn boot! I have trouble sleeping because I feel metal under my skin, I owe thousands of dollars in medical, and I HATE BEING ON CRUTCHES SO MUCH.

Is it just a lack of understanding? I'll be in the boot hopefully longer than I will be on crutches but once I can-- miracle of miracles-- carry laundry and trash down the stairs my quality of life will improve tenfold!

Why all the hate for the boot?

Weekend so bad I’m scared

I had a bender, fucked up WFH on Friday, bruises I don’t remember and the worst hangxiety of my life. Sick as a dog Monday, sweat through all my sheets, back at work today Tuesday trying not to cry. I’m still feeling it.

It’s enough to make me never want this again but I know when I’m not in a state of panic I’ll get bored and fuck up my life for no reason. Fucking hate myself and I have no one except my therapist and the internet

Hardware on both sides, is the lumpy cankle look permanent?

How visible is the hardware after healing from ORIF? Just a cosmetic concern but the shape is very different between ankles. I’m only 3 weeks post op but I can feel the metal so I know the shape isn’t all due to swelling.

Post ORIF - When were you allowed to stand on two feet? Walk across a room?

I'm aware this is an "ask your doctor" + "it varies" kind of question but humor me.

I've had my knee scooter for two weeks and I love it but it's still cumbersome. It's also squeaking horribly. I tried WD40 but it must not be in the right place. I wouldn't care but my apartment building has terrible soundproofing and I feel bad squeaking to the bathroom at night.

▲ 6 r/ORIF

24h postop, last night was b r u t a l.

Left ankle, bimal with a distal sprain thrown in. Metal bits and a splint. First, it took like 14 hours for the nerve blockers to wear off even though they said it would be more like 6-8. And when the nerves woke up around 1am... oh god. I'm down 3 Oxys just from last night (taken hours apart, dw), but they hardly did anything for the pain, just made me a little loopy. Useless. I was hoping not to rely on them too much because I'm scared of overreliance/tolerance/withdrawal.

This morning is a bit better, the actual surgery areas hurt instead of my entire lower leg feeling like it's in a vice.

It hurts worse than the original injury did, which i kind of expected but now I'm scared. How many days of this am I looking at?

Don't know if I can handle this

Break was last week, surgery not until next week mainly because they wanted swelling to go down.

I can count a lot of blessings already but there are some things that just plain fucking SUCK and I haven't figured out yet.

I live on the top floor of an apartment building with no elevator. Alone.

  • It's three sets of stairs to the front door plus stairs outside to go in/out.
  • Four sets of stairs to get to the laundry in the basement (how would I even bring laundry on crutches? And the detergent?)
  • How do I take out the trash to the dumpster outside?
  • A blessing is that delivery everything exists but it's 50/50 if they read my instructions begging to bring it to the top of the steps. Yesterday my knee scooter was left OUTSIDE. I had to get someone to bring it up, and it was heavy. I felt awful.
  • I can't let anyone in my apartment because it's extremely messy; not hoarder level but alcoholism+depression level of trash, bottles and shit all over. Plus boxes. Lol how do I take the boxes to the dumpster outside?

I'm getting better on crutches with flat surfaces but stairs are still scary, even with the rail. I'm also not very balanced in the first place and stumbling with the crutches/scooter still keep instinctively using the splint foot for balance. Not hard enough to feel anything but it's supposed to be NWB.

That concludes my bitching post. After years of being able to live independently and privately this is fucking with me and it's only week 1, and I'm still pre op. I'm not looking forward to living ~creatively~ for... what? half a year? ;_;
