Protect Action & Protected Condition 2024 Mechanic

Protect Action & Protected Condition 2024 Mechanic

This is the 2024 version of my Protect action I made around 6 years ago for 5e dnd!

As with my 2024 work compared to my 5e stuff, it's more streamlined and rebalanced to account for the differences that 2024 brings to the table. Feel free to use either version of the protect action!

Text Version

PROTECT

As an action, you protect one creature within 5 feet of yourself until the start of your next turn. The target gains the Protected condition.

PROTECTED

Attacks Affected. When a creature makes an attack roll against you, that attack targets your Protector instead if the Protector can see the attacker.

Saving Throws Affected. You have advantage on Dexterity saving throws.

No Longer Protected. This condition ends if your Protector is more than 5 feet away from you or has the Incapacitated condition.

>Let me know what you think! I've remade my old Half-Troll race for 2024 DnD! It's been cleaned up, rebalanced and designed to fit snuggly in the 2024 balance atmosphere. I used Detect Balance to get things in order. It currently sits at a total score of 39. For reference, Assimar(40), Dragonborn(40), Goliath(39), Warforged(39).

>I currently have Adrenal Regeneration sitting at a 17 trait cost, but there is conversation to be had about whether or not it should be higher or lower. For reference, other high point traits include. Human's extra origin feat(16), Farie's 30ft fly speed(16) and Aasimar's Celestial Revelation(14).

>I found this version of regeneration to be themeatically impactful while not overbaring during combat. Lower levels this will be quite noticable, and as you get higher levels, the effect of Adrenal Regeneration will be felt less as total hit-points outpace the threshold scaling, and the damage per round of combat encounters dramatically increase.

>I believe it to be balanced as is, but if you would like to augment Adrenal Regeneration for your own game, I suggest using one or multiple of these changes. 1. Poison damage also stops regeneration. 2. Remove character level scaling from threshold. 3. Instead of regaining con mod hit points, it could be prof bonus instead.
