Reddit is going to have a complete meltdown when Conor starches Max Holloway

This sub is going to be in absolute shambles when Conor reminds everyone exactly who he is.

People are acting like Max Holloway is about to walk through him because he beat up a bunch of featherweights and had one cool last second knockout. Max is a volume puncher with pillow fists. He gets hit constantly and his entire game is based on overwhelming guys who can’t crack. That is a terrible strategy against the most precise counter striker the UFC has ever seen.

Conor only needs one clean left hand. One. Max can throw his little 7 punch combinations all he wants, but the second he leaves his chin in the air like he always does, he’s getting sent to the shadow realm.

Everyone loves to talk about ring rust, but they said the same thing before every Conor fight. Skill does not disappear. Timing does not disappear. Nuclear power in the left hand definitely does not disappear.

People also forget Conor already beat Max when Max was younger and hungrier. Now Max has years of mileage and enough accumulated head trauma to qualify as a medical case study. His legendary chin is not a superpower, it is a ticking time bomb.

The only fighter in the UFC who is a legitimate threat to Conor is Islam Makhachev. That’s it.

And even then, if Conor lands first, all that Dagestani wrestling goes out the window.

A deep dive into Tom Aspinall

Tommy Bum Bum, the quitter quitter king
Walked to the cage like he’d conquer everything
Talked about belts and legacy and glory
Then an eye poke happened and rewrote the story

Tommy Bum Bum, with tears in his eyes
Looked to the ref and started telling lies
“My vision is blurry, I cannot go on”
Meanwhile old legends fought with their eyeballs gone

Tommy Bum Bum, the softest of men
Will he ever be trusted in battle again?
The crowd wanted violence, they wanted a war
Tommy Bum Bum was sprinting for the door

Jonny Bones sat back on his throne
Laughing while Tommy typed essays on his phone
“Please give me the title, I earned it somehow”
The division just points and laughs at him now

Tommy Bum Bum, the quitter quitter bum
The moment got hard and he started to run
Champions keep fighting when everything’s grim
Quitters find reasons, and that reason was him

He trained in the shadows, he lifted with pride
But heart is the one thing money can’t buy
The belt isn’t won with excuses and tweets
It’s won when you stand on two functional feet

Tommy Bum Bum, the legend of cope
Clinging to rankings and dangling hope
The fans keep insisting “his time will come”
But deep down they know he is Tommy Bum Bum.

How many of you would quit over a weak eye graze?

Has Tom had the biggest fall off ever?

Tommy Bum, Tommy Bum, quitter in the night,
Talks like he is fearless, folds at the first sign of fright.
Heavyweight savior, or so the fans all say,
One finger to the eyeball and his courage floats away.

Tommy Bum, Tommy Bum, king of what if land,
Shadowboxing champions with an ice pack in his hand.
They say he beats legends, they swear he wears the crown,
Then one little poke and Tommy Bum goes down.

Tommy Bum, Tommy Bum, the people’s chosen one,
Until the fight gets messy and he decides he is done.
Built like a monster, marketed like a god,
Mentally held together by wet cardboard and fraud.

Tommy Bum, Tommy Bum, future of the throne,
Needs a full medical team whenever he gets touched in the dome.
His fans write fan fiction, they call him the best,
But every real champion knows adversity is the test.

Tommy Bum, Tommy Bum, quitter through and through,
If that is your guy, then the joke is really you.
The belt stays waiting while excuses multiply,
Tommy Bum the Quitter, forever asking why.

Does the UFC need to enforce some kind of 6 month rule? It seems like these guys just get the belt and go on vacation.

Van was highly active before he got the belt, now its been 6 months with nothing

Yan, 6 months and nothing scheduled

Volk, 5 months and nothing scheduled

Topuria will go a year without a fight

Islam, 7 months and nothing scheduled

Khamzat, 9 months with no fight

Ulbergs knee is recovering, so he has an excuse

Tom got his eye poked out, but he has finished one fight since 2024

It is certain, we will be heavyweight champion of the UFC, it will by 2028 or sooner. It will change the UFC forever…

In terms of heavyweight legacy, he has to be top 5 already, once he wins the belt (before 2028) he would likely jump to number 2 behind Stipe.

Realistically speaking, he will most likely defend his belt 5 or 6 times before retiring.

Would this make him the HW GOAT? How close is he already?

Topuria moves up, calls for the biggest name possible, and suddenly the energy shifts from “anyone anytime” to “not right now”

Funny how that works

This is the same division where guys get thrown in with killers off a single win streak, but when Topuria an undefeated violent finisher with serious momentum comes knocking, it turns into timing issues, legacy protection, and “he hasn’t earned it yet”

Earned it how exactly

By cleaning out featherweight and looking like the scariest guy in two divisions

At some point it stops being coincidence and starts looking like matchmaking calculus. If you’re really the undisputed best, you don’t stall out when the most dangerous contender shows up you run it

But instead we’re getting distance

And fans are supposed to just pretend that’s normal

Maybe it’s not fear

Maybe it’s just selective risk management

I think people are getting way too far ahead of themselves here, Islam is absolutely one of the greatest to ever do it, probably top 5 for me. But to say he will surpass Jon Jones or GSP with 2 or 3 WW title defenses is insane.

Put your emotional bias aside, yes we know Jon is a dirtbag, we know he popped for PED’s (every UFC fighter does PED’s)

He has the best MMA resume of all time and it’s not that close. 16 (17 technically) title wins in an era of killers, basically destroyed everyone he fought except Reyes and Gustafson 1. Destroyed DC twice, who is one of the greatest to ever do it.

I really shouldn’t have to explain Jones’ resume to you guys, you know what he did, who he beat and how he did it.

GSP is another example, and even if Jon isn’t your GOAT due to the controversies and PED’s, how could it not be GSP? 12 title wins in a stacked welterweight division, came back after 4 years off and moved up a weight class to beat Bisping for the MW belt. Again, I shouldn’t have to explain GSP’s greatness to you guys.

To say that Islam would be the GOAT with like 7 or 8 title wins is kind of wild and disrespectful to Jones and GSP

This all seems like a big case of recency bias

Thoughts?
