Do you ever worry we are Algernon?

This is for those who, like me, have seen their body change size multiple times in life. I dieted for a long time, got smaller, but always to see my weight regain anyway. Eventually I realized it was not my fault, that this is the story of the vast majority of people who try to lose weight.

So, I turned to intuitive eating, anti diet, body positivity to accept myself at a larger size. The fact is, there was no way to permanently shrink myself so the best thing I could do was try to be healthy at a larger size and accept my body as it is. Only my health got worse the bigger I got and I was never happy with my larger body.

Enter … glp-1s. It changes everything because now we may actually have a way to address and treat the root cause. I know I have obesity, this is a chronic condition, and Zepbound is treating it. Extremely successfully so far. I’m nine months in and almost at weight I hope to maintain. Most importantly, my health has improved by several measures.

But now I have this fear and the book Flowers for Algernon keeps coming into my mind. If you are not familiar, it is a fiction novel about a man with a very low IQ who is a participant in a study using a medication that makes you smarter. It works, he becomes extremely smart but eventually it has negative effects and either stops working or he has to stop taking it. In any case, he goes back to who he was in the beginning. It’s a very depressing book.

What if i am just enjoying a temporary body? What if it does lose its efficacy over time? I feel so much better, physically and mentally about my body. This is the healthiest I’ve been in years. I’m just so scared it won’t last and I already know I am not happy in a big body. (Yes, even after therapy and reading multiple books)

Anyone else feel like this and what are you doing about this fear?

Solo traveler: do people still meet IRL?

Heading to Vegas in a few days for an end of summer solo vacay before school year starts. I lived in Vegas and worked on the Strip in my early twenties, but I’m 42 now so it’s been awhile!! I’m excited to see what’s changed and I’m not nervous to travel alone. But I am just curious if it is still easy to just meet new people IRL without using an app like it used to be when I lived there. I’m hoping that is the case! Any tips for good spots to hang out where it’s not weird to start chatting with strangers?

You don’t own someone after one kiss (or ever?!) Adrienne 42.3

Just watched episode three with my morning coffee (thank you for finally going to streaming!!) and I just don’t understand why Gen Z thinks that sharing a kiss with someone now means you own them and they can’t so much as sit in a chair next to someone else. Is this a younger generation thing? So possessive, it’s giving major red flags!! Run Josh!! She’s acting crazy!!!

Never been so happy to be overweight!

I want to start with the acknowledgement that BMI is a problematic measure for a variety of reasons (if you don't know, google it). With that said, I felt so good today about officially being in the overweight category, down from obese 2. I didn't feel what I expected to feel when I made it onederland, but I feel it today. I have been on Zepbound since January and am down 43 pounds, still on 5mg. At this point I recognize myself again, especially my face! I would need to lose another 30 to get to the "normal" range, which I think is possible for me on this medication but honestly, I think I would be happy within this overweight range. I also want to say that I know even if the BMI chart says I am not obese, I know that I do have obesity and that to maintain what feels like a much healthier weight, I will need to stay on this medication for life, which I am happy to do.
