Walked into a vintage watch store this past weekend and as soon as I saw this watch I knew it was the one for me! I’ve been looking for a quality everyday wear for a while now and this looked to fit the bill. I’m no Rolex expert so I could have paid too much, but I like researching things and being informed, so I’ve kept my “toes in the water” so to speak on pricing.

So what the heck is this thing? Well, I believe it’s a 1976 Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 with a ‘Tropical’ Blue dial. The watch came with two leather straps, and was priced at $3500.

The 1601 DJ is such a classic Rolex, and that dial is just enough of a subtle flair to make it a unique everyday wear. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I freaking love the dial!

I’ve opened up the case back and it seems to have the correct movement (1570). There is some heavier pitting on the inside edge of the case, and the oscillating wheel looks to have cracked in two spots. Last service was mid-2019, but it’s running smoothly and winds nicely. If anyone has things I should watch out for or maintenance tips please let me know.

Condition: Great - no chips, cracks, dents, dings. Some swirl marks in the clear that I’m guessing could be buffed. These are not very noticeable unless tou look very close. The reflections and glossiness of the Piano Black are still incredible.

Description: These are the original Ultra series (released prior to the new Ultra Evolution line). IMO, these look a lot cleaner with the chamfered geometric lines and flush baffle compared to the newer Evolutions. The mirror-like Piano Gloss Black finish is in good shape, and both drivers and tweeter diffusers are flawless. Includes original pin type cloth grilles.

There’s a lot of good information on these speakers, so I won’t specifically discuss their sound - nor do I feel qualified. What I will say is they sound AWESOME and can get very loud.

Basic Facts: 2-Way Rear-Ported Bookshelf Loudspeakers. Features a 1” Aluminum Dome Tweeter with FEA-Optimized Diffuser and a 6.5” Composite Glass-Fiber Cone Woofer. 87 dB Sensitivity, 8 ohm nominal impedance.

Cabinet Dimensions: 15.0" H × 8.5" W × 10.9" D (with grille). Weight: 19 lbs each.

I’m looking for some recommendations for off the shelf IEMs that could fit my funky ears.

I’ve tried various options of in ear headphones/IEMs, but haven’t been able to find many options that are comfortable. I have ear canals that are very thin, and a fairly shallow concha (I looked up what bowl part of ear is called). What I’ve tried:

- Moondrop Blessing 2 DUSK: Comically large for my ears and stick out a lot. Didn’t stay in my ear, and trying to fit the nozzle into the ear canal didn’t work.
- Moondrop Starfield: Less aggressive than Blessing, but same issue.
- Final Audio E2000: Kept falling out of ear, uncomfortable to push far enough into ear canal to have it stay in ear.
- AirPods Pro 2: The best I’ve found so far. They sometimes fall out if I’m on my back and don’t seat them fully before lying back.
- Nothing Ear (a): They fit okay, the head of the earbud was a bit too large for my concha ear area and felt like it wasn’t secure.
- Apple wired earbuds: They are fine. Won’t stand up to much movement at all, but they rest in the ear if I’m sitting at a desk.

Any helpful suggestions or advice is appreciated!
