Gyro was born in a construction camp and spent his childhood in extreme poverty. From a very young age—even before he learned to speak—he was forced to work with concrete and bricks. Gyro grew up believing his only obligation was not to cause trouble for others, as that was practically the only lesson his father ever repeated to him.
Despite the constant mistreatment, Gyro idolized his father for two reasons: he believed his father had never abandoned him, and he thought his father had spent the entire night caring for him when he suffered a near-fatal fever as a child. These two events underpinned Gyro's entire worldview.
This belief is shattered when a man from the camp reveals the truth to him. His father never loved him; he only kept him around because the money Gyro earned from working was useful. Furthermore, it was a neighbor—not his father—who had actually cared for him during his illness. Upon discovering this, the emotional framework that held his life together collapses.
