USC Frats for Veterans/Transfer Students?

I’m going to start my first semester at USC this fall from a CC and not from the LA area at all. I’m a veteran that started school after I got out from serving 3.5 years active duty and am 26 so I’ll definitely be older. I am wondering if it’s worth trying to join a frat? I know there’s frats affiliated with the schools, but I’m open to non affiliated as well. I’ve heard all the horror stories about hazing but I also know they can be a great way to network and make some friends. I’m not going to be living on campus so I’m wondering if it’s worth it to try out for one and which would be the best to join given my background. I’m planning on getting a career in tech with my degree in either private sector or government if that helps. Would appreciate any advice.

TAC-115 Exam Tips

I’m going to be taking the Tac-115 exam to see if I can test out of it and was wondering if anyone that’s taken it has some advice on what exactly I should focus on studying and how in-depth it will be. I checked out the example with sample questions and it seems like I’ll have to brush up on some things since the last course I took on Python was an introductory ZYbook course during my first semester at CC. Any advice is appreciated.

That registration process was brutal.

That’s all. I didn’t think it would feel that chaotic. Hopefully it’s just cause it’s my first time registering.

Need help deciding between CSULB Or USC

Not sure if it this is the right sub, but I need advice. I am currently deciding between CSULB Management Information Systems or USC Intelligence and Cyber Operations. I am more drawn to CSULB since they would take all my CCC credits which would allow me to graduate in two years, but I also am attracted to the name recognition of USC, though I would need to take a few gen eds through them. I am interested in pursuing a career related to I.T. or cyber security either in the private sector or government. I was in the Army for 4.5 years and will be using my post 9/11 G.I. Bill. I will be moving to Southern California from the valley and not on campus which is an another factor as I will likely be a commuter student. Any advice here on what to do or other subs I should ask would be greatly appreciated.

The babyfication of dogs is weird.

I’ve grown up with dogs my whole life and love them to death. I consider them part of my family and wouldn’t have it any other way. But there seems to be a growing culture of owners that seem infantilize their dogs to the point that they don’t even want their dog to act like a dog. People pay $2000+ just to “train” a dog that can’t stop whining when it’s owner is gone for more than 1 minute and has problems interacting with humans other than it’s owner and other dogs because the owner is afraid to leave it alone for more than 10 seconds. I’ve never had any dogs that acted the way I see many of my friends dogs act now. It seems to be with people that have never actually owned one before and think it’s the equivalent of a human baby. They are SOCIAL animals that thrive in packs and need other human and dog interactions other than their owner to be able to function. They create a whole social media page for their dog like a child. They are afraid to play too ruff with their dog which means it’s just going to get bored and start acting out since you’re not letting it burn off its energy. I’ve seen owners get their dogs goggles to look out of the car window for Christ’s sake. Dogs are ANIMALS y’all, nothing else than that. I promise you they will find ways to entertain themselves when you’re not around. They have a much different tolerance for what we consider mild uncomfortable situations. I can’t count the number of times I’ve played ruff with a friend’s dog and they act shocked at how much fun it’s having as it’s coming back to me for more. Like yeah dude you’re allowed to play with a dog longer than 3 minutes and not stopping once they start breathing harder. You should actually go harder once they get to that point. They actually like the challenge considering they’re descended from literal wolves. Just because you see something as an animal it doesn’t mean you love it any less. You just learn to respect it for what it is how to read its language. I can confidently say this is the case based on the number of times I’ve been told that I am the dog’s favorite other than their owner when I come to visit. Maybe it’s because I actually play with it like it’s a dog and not a two year old.

I got accepted into both of these schools and they both seem nice. I went to Cal State LA’s preview day and found the overall vibe very down to earth which I liked. I visited CSULB the same day and really love the layout of the campus. The gym was amazing and everything looks very modernized on that campus compared to LA. Overall, I’m interested in a career related to I.T./Cybersecurity and just wondering what school might be the best route for this. I would be doing the cybersecurity option at LA, but I’ve heard CSULB has a really good business department. I see myself working in a corporate environment so I think that either would be a good program for me. I’m a veteran using the G.I. Bill so I also need to take rent in both areas into consideration. I’m also not from the SoCal area so a move to either place would be new to me. Just wondering if anyone has any input into either of these programs to help make my decision.
