Financial aid

Just received my package and it's low-key booty. I got like 4k per semester. But it also says "Check back later" with a hazard sign. So that confused me, like will I get more? Is there a way to appeal this and ask for more? Please provide some info about how to do this and what to say when doing so.Thank you.

So sad

It’s honestly sooo SAD to see a department not even willing to genuinely support its students, but instead suggest withdrawing the application altogether.
Maybe this sounds emotional, but throughout this entire process, I have not truly felt supported by either my department or Financial Aid. Being repeatedly told that “all scholarships and grants have already been distributed” and that my only option is to rely on nearly $140,000 in loans is extremely discouraging and disappointing ( and having 0$ income, totally 0)!
For a university that speaks so much about opportunity and supporting students, it is shocking to see how easily students can be left behind simply because they are struggling financially. I guess losing students over finances is considered acceptable now. Wow. 😭😭😭😭

Is my freshman year going to suck as a spring admit?

I committed to USC as a spring admit but I keep hearing stories about how much it sucks if you get non freshman housing, how hard it is to make friends, and having to catch up with coursework. Now I’m having second thoughts and kind of dreading my freshman year.

Do any spring admits have experiences that confirm or deny this?

USC Marshall Transfer Spring 27 Admit

Grateful to have been admitted after two yrs of cc but im lost and confused as to how I'll navigate spring admit. I've already done two yrs at cc and I'm trying to recruit for high finance internships and clubs. I also dont want to extend my grad date but that's probably going to happen because im joining a whole semester late. I'm rn thinking of joining another university I got into for fall before I join usc so I can still get a good college experience while having the ability to recruit for internships as remaining at community college wont give me any leverage or chance when applying for high finance internships. I dont have an exact question because this situation is tricky but i guess im just looking for insight. Is it possible to just list USC as my university in the fall itself and maybe even join the clubs? How is spring for socializing and making friends? Can I join the fall orientation and meet the fall admits?

Job Market for Alums

How’s the job market for Marshall Alum’s who graduated post covid? How hard was it to land a job and what did you have to do to land it. I got into USC as a junior transfer and I’m trying to see if the price tag is worth it

Transfer to Marshall

I just got in as a transfer for the school of public policy. I’ve been trying to see if I can change my major to finance or economics but those weren’t even choices on the application.

Does anyone know if I can transfer from public policy college to Marshall college before classes start? My advisor hasn’t been answering me so idk. Thanks !

Housing - Webb v. McCarthy

Hi, so recently I got assigned to a 4P in Webb with 3 of my friends, which I am certainly satisfied and excited about. The problem is, today I got the news that I got selected to a Country Scholarship given out by my country's Alumni Association. The email told me that it makes me eligible for McCarthy, and people around me have been telling me to go for it.

I'm left wondering if making a switch to McCarthy might be a good idea or if it isn't worth moving out of Webb and leaving my friends behind. The good thing is, we have another friend that recently got moved up to Fall admission from Spring, so as for a replacement, he's technically right there (although we will have to see the specifics of how that whole thing works as well).

What are the specific perks of McCarthy, and is it as good of an experience as people say it is? Also, how would you say it is compared to Webb; would you say it's worth me applying for reassignment? Any input would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Is USC Gateway a good housing option for incoming freshman (spring admit)?

My daughter got accepted to USC and will start in the Spring. However, she wants to move to the area this Fall while she takes classes at a community college.

Is the USC Gateway building a good place for a freshman to live? We weren’t sure if it would be more difficult to make friends there compared to an on-campus dorm. Are there a lot of freshman who live there?

We were also wondering if it would be difficult to sublet her place next summer. She would need to sign a 1 year lease and will likely want to move out after classes end in May.

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Deferring Admission

hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has successfully deferred admission. I am a transfer student, and just found out I got accepted (honestly I did not expect to get in), and I am super stoked, but my mental health is not the best as of right now due to several reasons. I don’t know if I could handle all the changes that would come with transferring so soon and starting in the fall…
— Alternatively, I also wondered what is the least amount of units I could take for the fall. Like I accept admission, and register for like 1 online class only so I wouldn’t lose my spot. Idk, is that something that can even be done?

I’ll take any suggestions and advice :)

Reminder to Rate your Landlords and Professors

As everyone heads home for summer, I just wanted to take a second to reflect on the past year at MSU. East Lansing always has a way of turning chaos into memories somehow.

This year was a mix of late nights, random memories, stressful moments, great people, and a lot of lessons learned. Now that classes and finals are mostly behind us, it feels like the perfect time to leave some honest feedback that could help other students next semester.

If you lived off-campus this year, especially if you dealt with a landlord or property company, consider sharing your experience on https://judgemylandlord.com . Good landlords deserve recognition, and bad ones shouldn’t keep getting away with ruining students’ housing situations. Your review could genuinely help another student avoid signing a nightmare lease next year.

And if you haven’t already, take a few minutes to review your professors on https://www.ratemyprofessors.com too. A lot of students rely on those reviews when choosing classes, and honestly, the professor you get can completely change your experience in a course.

We have way more power as students than we think. Sharing honest experiences makes college life more transparent for everyone coming after us.

Hope everyone has an amazing summer, stays safe, and enjoys the break. And congrats again to all the graduating seniors ❤️

USC and debt

I’m being admitted this Fall and the biggest problem is the debt I might accumulate I’m so scared I have school debt but it’s small apples compared to horror stories I’ve heard. I’m going to grad school for ECE and I want to go into gaming industry not coding but more of maxing video game products, computers(think of Razer, Asus, and Alienware) or similar. What is your experience with USC and how they handle debt as a grad student? I’m extremely low income I don’t mind having it and I’m willing to work research or similar but I want it to be doable.
