Ideas to keep my book going
I've been working on my book for a couple of months, mainly developing characters and the concepts I want to include in the story itself, but as every time I get a concept or an idea, it's so hard for me to plot it and make it make sense, so I'd really appreciate any ideas on how I can keep my idea going, or if any concept would fit in my original idea.
Basically there's this world in which there was a huge war and therefore humanity got divided into four kingdoms, each one representing an element (water, earth...). My original idea revolved around those elements being all part of the same god (I'd like to keep it just one god), so when humanity decided to create said kingdoms they separated the object that keeps the god connected with the world. I'd appreciate ideas for the object, I've thought about a crystal ball or a huge sculpture in which one kingdom takes care of the head, the other has the arms...
My main characters are the royal families from the kingdoms. My problem lies in the fact that I don't know how to keep the story going when different deaths or meteorological phenomena start happening. Like, how can they fix a god dying? Especially because I don't like humanizing gods, I find difficult that humans could interfere in that. I thought about the God being able to "transfer" parts of its life to different people, so four chosen people would have each an element power, meaning all of them would have the same essence after all. But, what when that happens? Should they fusion in that one god? Could they take control and try to destroy the sculpture of said god?
So in summary, I struggle with what could happen after they realize the god that keeps them all alive is dying. I've thought about including magical creatures such as dragons or a phoenix, even a magic system, but if I include it I'd want it to be a bit more selective with the people that actually have powers. I hope I explained myself well enough, given that I wanted to keep it short and English isn't my first language. Any ideas are welcomed, thank you in advance!
