Why tf are a lot of people saying anarchy is against hierarchies
Anarchy means without a ruler or government.
Anarchy means without a ruler or government.
There was a question that was in my mind for a while and I was hoping y’all would have answers for it.
What would be stopping people from banding up together into bandit groups and violating the rights of others?
I’m talking about in Murray Rothbard Anatomy of the State, governments form from bandit groups pillaging villages and decide to just start parasitizing off of their labor. How do we stop those bandit groups from causing enough trouble?
A bonus question would be, “how do we keep the large firms in check?”
I feel like we should use the sub-Reddit as a way to discuss the mechanism of anarcho-capitalism as well as the philosophy behind it rather than right now where we just bring up current news headlines and just give a general reaction from the viewpoint of an ancap.
First, I feel like it would allow for a less harsh barrier to entry for people who are newer to the ideology, as I understand that this being a more extreme ideology would make it harder to find information on it; especially any media that puts ancap theory in a positive light. Not to mention the fact that your average person is going to read so many hours of literature just for a basic understand here.
Second, it would allow for better first impressions if we talk about why ancap would be better for society. When people hear anarchy, they think chaos, fire, mass murder, destruction. When people hear capitalism, they think large mega corporations taking control of the large majority of the market. especially since the words “anarchy” and “capitalism” are generally seen negatively. Making things clearer would make it easier to understand that ancap is neither chaos nor mass corporate control.
Third, making our beliefs clearer to understand would make it harder to form and easier to detect strawman arguments.
Personally, I just think it’s boring to only talk about current events and giving a reaction to them, such a practice has been done to death and makes it seem like we’re no different from more of the “””socialist””” type of sub-reddits. And to be clear, I’m not saying we should stop that, I just think we should do more than that. (Yes I do know there are posts that don’t do this, but I’m saying we should do it more often)
But really, this could just be me nitpicking.
To better explain. What would be a legal case that was technically legal/illegal under current state or federal law that would’ve had the opposite outcome if it was under the context of NAP. (Example: someone getting charged with tax evasion despite the fact that protecting your funds or assets from theft is acceptable under the NAP)
(The ideology, not just the sub-reddit)
It could be by pure accident via a lucky YouTube recommendation, or were you tired of the repeating patterns of lies and control done by government politicians and their cult followers?
For me, it was a mix of both. I was getting tired of the left’s degeneracy and the right’s pure incompetency. Only for me to stumble upon this ideology that so happens to fit my pre established values of personal responsibility and freedom.
Edit: to expand on it. For a while, I was getting really tired with our government constant incomparable and authoritarian. It ended up with me coming across a few videos talking about the free market, taxation being theft, and also an introduction to anarchy (specifically anarcho-capitalism).
But what really caused me to change my political views was after the Charlie Kirk murder, which caused me to loose faith in the democrats and raised awareness of the cult like nature in the left. Obviously this shifted me towards the republicans, but I had a hard time ignoring the republicans own brand of authoritarianism. After all of that, I’m now here.
