Lorenzo Ramzey was kind, funny, and he enjoyed chess. He was always up for the challenge to play chess on his lunch hour with his co-workers. Sometimes he would be up until 3 a.m. playing chess on the internet. His nickname was "Grandmaster" because he was so skilled at it. Lorenzo was 48 years old.

On 9/11 Matthew McDermott's wife was watching Barney on TV with their two daughters when he called. He said there was an explosion near his floor, and thought it could've been an airplane, and he needed to get out. Matthew didn't live to see his son Matthew Michael McDermott born in March 2002.

Jimmie Holley survived the Vietnam War, and later on a heart bypass and a kidney transplant. On 9/11 his family hoped that he survived the attack at the Pentagon, but it wasn't meant to be. Jimmie's 4 y/o Granddaughter said, "Pop-Pop is not coming back. His eyes are closed. The bad man got him."

Philip Mastrandrea Jr. loved the beach, telling jokes, and was a collector of watches & cars. He was also very reliable. On the night of 9/10 Philip tucked his daughters ages 5 & 8 into bed, and kissed his wife like any other night, not knowing what the next day would bring. Philip was 42 years old.

Emeric Harvey was a natural born leader who had some close calls in his life. As a young man he almost boarded an Air Force plane that crashed & everyone onboard perished. Back in 1993 he barely missed being in the WTC when it was bombed. On 9/11 Emeric was at a breakfast meeting at WOTW. He was 56.

Christopher Dincuff was a generous, friendly, & caring person. His mother said, "He always made people feel welcome. I never had to teach him how to share." His friends called him "The Mayor of South River" because he knew everyone. Christopher was engaged to be married in September 2002. He was 31.

In the aftermath of 9/11 Loretta Vero's sister contacted all the hospitals, but heard nothing back. It took her sister 4-years to come to terms with what happened to her. But since Loretta's remains were never found, which meant there was no closure, it made things worse for Loretta's sister.

Joseph Mangano was kind and opened his home to 20 foster children. He enjoyed fishing, model trains, and nature. In early 2001 he bought his dream home, built a room for a pool table, but never got around to buying it. His wife said, "Now the room is sitting there and I can't stand to go down there"

Brian Magee was incredibly generous & loving. He was genuinely interested in the lives of others and would be there to help when needed. He was an avid motorcyclist and treasured his Harley-Davidson. He was also known as "Gadget Man" because of his extensive gadget & tool collection. Brian was 52.

Firefighter Michael Weinberg was on vacation when he got word of the attack of the WTC. His sister worked on the 72nd floor in 2WTC. He immediately went to help. As 2WTC collapsed Michael and a Captain tried to take cover under a fire truck and unfortunately were killed. Michael's sister survived.

Joshua Aron's father, a Doctor, walked through the patient waiting room, looked up at the TV and saw 1WTC in flames. He called Joshua's wife and she had spoken to Joshua. Joshua told her he would call her back when he got outside. Joshua's FIL William Spitz also on the 104th floor perished on 9/11.

Donald Delapenha was loving, kind, funny, & courageous. After the 1993 WTC bombing he kept an oxygen tank & a mask underneath his desk. On 9/11 he told his wife he was fine and that the plane hit the other tower. He was never heard from again after that. Donald left behind a wife & three children.

Thomas Linehan was a quiet person and a homebody who enjoyed spending time with his wife & two children. He would play with his children in the treehouse and make picnics for them. Thomas & his wife, Carol, met on a blind date arranged by her Brother-In-Law Dennis Taormina who also perished on 9/11.

3-years prior to 9/11, Daniel Maher had a triple bypass and it motivated him to pay attention to his health, so he could be around for his family. Daniel was fun & very kind hearted. He was the type of manager who willingly gave up raises so others under him wouldn't miss out on one. Daniel was 50.

John Lenoir's brother didn't realize he was in danger, until his father called him. The family held out a glimmer of hope after watching rescue workers pick through the rubble, but reality became inescapable, that John was never coming home. 2-years later a bone fragment of John's was identified.

Daphne Elder's father was just a few blocks from 1WTC when it was hit. It was Daphne's first day back to work from vacation. His cell phone rang, but there was static. He felt it must be her. He stayed as close to the scene as possible until 10 p.m. hoping for news about Daphne, but there was none.

In 1993 Officer John Lennon Jr. had the grim task of pulling the deceased from the rubble of the WTC. Fast forward to 2001 John led people out of the smoky tower to safety. When one of the survivors turned to thank John, John was heading back into the building to rescue more people. John was 44 y/o.

After 2WTC was hit Richard Madden called his wife. His wife said, “He called me by phone and told me, ‘My bldg is burning and I don’t think I’m going to make it… and I love you. Then we lost contact.” His body was identified in the rubble from the inscription on his ring "Rich, all my love, Maura."
