Does Anxiety Affect Cavities?

Back in May, I had gotten six cavities filled. On the seventh one, I was able to feel the drilling. Hot and painful, and they had to stop. I was scared, I started to cry, they told me that this would make it worse. I was left with a hole in my tooth.
I had gone back in September to get the final two filled, one worked, but I could still feel the hot, painful drilling, but only a tad. The hole is still open, as they refuse to fill it because they stated I have “dental anxiety” and should “go see my physician about getting medication.” before they drill and fill the final one due to its size.
I am going to another office to get an examination soon, and I hope they can fill my final cavity. I also hope that I did truly have eight cavities and haven’t been dealing with this for no reason.
I am not sure if it’s the liquid pain killer that doesn’t work, or if it is truly a case of nerves. I need to get this cavity, the hole, filled. Is there anything I can do to help this situation?
