We want your help building community standards for releases

Alright everyone I have a question for you but first an explanation. The community has come together many times to try and make a guideline for releases for new devs who release projects in our spaces. Whether it's a team build or an individual dev the outcomes are always different and you will find varying quality per release and dev.

What do you think should be included in project releases? What are you looking for when you want to remix a project and when you are getting started on a brand new project? If you're interested in getting involved with the developer or a testing team what kind of communications do you want to get involved with to assist? Can you think of anymore questions that could benefit this line of thinking and help us get a list of standards we should be seeing in these packs?

Now of course we aren't going to be policing this and you shouldn't be either. But we as devs, testers, and consumers in this space should have a general guideline of what we all want to see in project releases and what goals should be met before putting projects out as full releases. Whether devs meet that standard will be completely up to them.

New Beta need testers: The Jaçanā

Now hitting beta with the Black Lotus Coalition team come and join us!

You know what?

>unbullpupps your Urutau

Introducing the Jaçanã, a 9mm PCC by Joseph The Parrot, now in beta with Black Lotus Coalition. Like the Urutau, the Jaçanã is a 100% DIY design when used in tandem with the CM-1 fire control group by IvanTheTroll. All jigs to create the bolt are included. The Jaçanã is configurable as a title I handgun or form 1 SBR, depending on whether you attach a stock.

Unlike the Urutau Mk2, the Jaçanã's design still needs some work. Though RSmith28 was able to build his and test it successfully, there are still a few quality-of-life improvements he could use help with, like implementing a slappable charging handle and a folding stock. (The design takes a weight-forward approach, so no buffer tube is technically required.)

RSmith28 has not started on the Jaçanã's documentation yet, so FGC-9 or Urutau building experience is preferable if you are interested in this beta.

Urutau MK2 Hits Beta with BLC

Please help us share this news anywhere you can. With the blessing of developers Joseph the Parrot and Rsmith28 we are proud to announce the Urutau MK2 Beta hitting Black Lotus Coalition with Rsmith as lead Dev.

The Urutau Mk2 is the result of continuous improvements by Joseph The Parrot made to the original Urutau. It is significantly more compact that the original and even the FGC-9, and it features a slappable charging handle like the MP5. The design has a higher rigidity and includes extra document options to make it more opsec-friendly. With some slight modifications, the Urutau Mk2 is also compatible with 9x23mm Stark ammunition cartridges, a new project that is quietly underway in the DIY ammo front come join us here.

The Urutau Mk2 is a short-barreled rifle by default so you'll need a Form 1 it is best configured as such. The default barrel length is 225mm (8.9 inches) and the default overall length is 428mm (16.8 inches). You will need to file a form 1 to make this legally, and you will also need to serialize the lower receiver if you live in a state where that's necessary.

Thompson Update

Update for those of you following the progress of the Bamson DIY 9mm Thompson. The SCS bolt has been figured out it is about 4x cheaper than the original bolt making it a hell of a lot more accessible. It still retains the function of the original and still rocks. After this 9mm version is fleshed out we're shooting right to .45acp I hope y'all will follow us on this journey and join the beta team!

Decker-9 Beta Update!

1700 rounds, a few days ago we finally had a bolt failure on our Decker 9 bolt. It disassembled like it was supposed to and broke safely but after 1700 rounds a mostly polymer bolt with some cast metal lasted 1700 rounds. Now to a good chunk of you there's a belief that is good enough and we should release it already. To another chunk I imagine you're thinking wow that's why we make those out of metal. What I'm thinking and the team behind the Decker-9 we're thinking of ways to improve this bolt so it will last even longer and so that printed bolts become more viable options. If you think this way I want you to come and join our team, we need people who think the way you do and we can push these boundaries together. On the other hand though I imagine there's also some of y'all who are thinking damn 1700 rounds is a lot of ammo 😉.

Some of y'all may also recognize this particular Decker-9 from a previous post this particular Decker-9 was used to hit a bag limit last deer season. She's field tested and put down deer great.

The Harlot V1 Update Pack

Harlot V1 Update Pack.

Howdy y'all you're probably wondering why we're even posting about this so let me tell you. Black Lotus Coalition is currently updating old packs of previous releases. These new packs include updated STEP Files, Reference Models, tooling for models, remixes, better documentation, updated links, and McMasterCarr Codes so you can source your parts easier.

We're always looking for more testers, devs, or anyone interested in helping us with this endeavor updating old packs and getting better reference models for the community.

Note: this project is historic and you should build a V3 if you're interested in the Harlet Family.

The 9mm Thompson

I know I've been pushing mostly beta updates but here is a new beta announcement we are looking for additional testers come join the team.

Introducing a new beta from the Black Lotus Team and BLC Dev Bam76. The Bams 9mm Thompson. We just wrapped up the early alpha testing of the final version and are pushing to beta. The main beta will be to finish up documentation since the overall build won't have major changes besides different options for the CNC bolt.

The only part that would be considered OG would be the magazine catch spring. It uses an AR-15 FCG with a slightly modified hammer, A slightly modified ar-15 extractor, and a trimmed down ar-15 firing pin. It has a custom CNC bolt, but in the beta later we will explore SCS bolt to lower cost. Everything else is 3d printed parts and standard hardware with a couple of bolts that need to be trimmed to fit.

A .45 ACP version will also be available at a later date with adjustments to the bolt and main spring.
