Groudon or Kyogre - Which Generation 3 Box-Art Legend do you want to have playable the most?

Groudon or Kyogre - Which Generation 3 Box-Art Legend do you want to have playable the most?

Pokémon UNITE has added at least 1 Box-Art Legend from every generation aside from generation 3.

Groudon and Kyogre are both wild Pokémon in Theia Sky Ruins, but as we've seen with Zapdos and Articuno, UNITE can make wild Pokémon into Unite Licenses.

Groudon or Kyogre - which do you want them to release as playable and what role should they be?

Do you want them to have their Primal Reversions or would you prefer the way the already are in UNITE?

UNITE Dex | Reshiram and Zekrom

Reshiram and Zekrom have joined Pokémon UNITE today.

Zekrom will assist Reshiram by dropping lightning bolts every time Reshiram uses its Unite Move 3 times. This happens very often. You can summon Zekrom loads of times in a single match.

Reshiram's moves and abilities are inspired by its history in Pokémon games, going as far back as 15 years to its debut game, Pokémon White.

When Reshiram uses Tailwind or Dragon Dance in mainline games it's very still, however in UNITE the dashes are very similar to its appearances in Pokémon White and Pokémon White 2 from the cinematic scenes in those games.

Tailwind - The movement it does with its wings spread wide is very similar to the movement it does when it breaks into N’s Castle in Pokémon White.

Dragon Dance - At the end of Pokémon White, N is riding off on Reshiram. Its engine ignites and it flies extremely fast. In Pokémon White 2 when avoiding Kyurem’s attack, Reshiram spins round with its wings tightly together and its engine ignited, just like it does in UNITE when it uses Dragon Dance.

What do you guys think of these visual matches? Let's discuss in the comments!

7 days until the Greatest Legendary Duo in History takes over Aeos Island! (In the Shadow of Zekrom)

Reshiram will join the fray in 7 days on August 7, 2026.

When Reshiram uses its Unite Move 3 times it unleashes a giant fireball.
Zekrom then flies over Reshiram and unleashes giant lightning bolts.

This takes inspiration from their fusion moves. (Fusion Flare and Fusion Bolt).

You can see the shadow of Zekrom on the ground distinctively with the red eyes.

The first ever Unite Move that brings another Pokémon to the battle is coming!

Do you like how they designed Reshiram's Unite Move with Zekrom inside it?

Arc Suit Diantha’s Release Marks EXACTLY 666 Weeks of the Kalos Queen!

Today marks the 666th week since Diantha was first released in Pokémon X and Y on Saturday October 12, 2013.

Why did Arceus wait to give Diantha her Arc suit on this exact day?

All other Arc Suits didn't even land on the day of the week their first games released.

666 is associated with the beast, the complete opposite of the fairy Diantha.

Although she was acting while Kalos was being destroyed by the ultimate weapon.

Perhaps she wanted pure chaos, destruction, war and annihilation so she could be in a real play, then be the hero. That would make her both fairy and beast, after all.

UNITE Dex | Palkia

Palkia has joined the roster today, and its moves and abilities have taken inspiration from its appearances elsewhere in Pokémon.

The Pink Glowing Pearl (No effect)

  • When Palkia uses a boosted attack, Aura Sphere, Dragon Claw or its unite move: Multi Dimensional Rend the pearls on both sides of it's body light up.
  • This is where its space distorting power comes from. When it uses its signature move or other powerful moves in mainline games and anime its pearls glow just the same.

Built-Up Pressure (Ability that deals Increased damage with next basic attack)

  • When Palkia uses any move it gains a pressure stacks (up to 3). Small pressure lines can be seen flowing around Palkia. This is a sign of its built-up pressure which it releases when using a basic attack.
  • In Pokémon Legends: Arceus where Palkia protects the player from Dialga's destructive transformation to it's origin form. Which ends up leaving it with built-up pressure which it instantly releases at Dialga.

Aura Sphere and Dragon Claw (Upgraded Moves)

Aura Sphere maybe inspired by the movie: the rise of Darkrai. There is a special pink one it uses in the movie, however it has a similar design and choice behind aura sphere likely comes from this too.

Dragon Claw maybe also inspired by the movie: the rise of Darkrai. Specifically when Palkia uses Special Rend it send 1 slash at the enemy. Dragon Claw is essentially using this Special Rend with the bending space to move.

Multi Dimensional Rend (Based off Spacial Rend)

Palkia disappears into a spacial rift.

In mainline games Palkia is tied to disappearing into a different dimension or parallel reality. The phrase Spacial Rift does not appear in those games.

Spacial Rift is the name of Palkia's domain in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky.

When Palkia uses any moves or basic attack it gains more slash up to 4 then slashes several times to slice up opposing Pokémon and space itself. This maybe be inspired by how it can further slice up space by building up power and unleashing multi dimensional slashes.

No Gen 3 Pokémon in UNITE 2026 so far - Which do you want added?

Pokémon UNITE has added Unite Licenses for Pokémon from every generation aside from Gen 3 so far in 2026.

My favourites from Gen 3 are Seviper, Walrein, and Flygon. These would be great additions to the roster.

Which Gen 3 Pokémon do you want added?

Pokémon UNITE's new background looks WAY too similar to Open-World Stage...

Pokémon UNITE added a new main menu background that is very different from the actual holowear background tied to the band style holowear.

Differences from all Other Main Menu Background

  • Mismatched Holowear Art: It is completely different from the actual indoor, neon-grid stadium background tied to the global Band Style Holowear.
  • Unprecedented Release Timing: All previous backgrounds with Holowear ties match the Holowear art exactly and release alongside or after the Holowear. This one dropped as a standalone item without any tied Holowear.
  • Main Menu Background Design: The outside environment, with palm trees, seats and sea are much similar to the open-world stage than the global band style holowear.

Could we be getting Open-World soon in Pokémon Unite... or new China modes since Charjabug Scuffle released in September 2025.

The instant recognition shows just how similar these two locations are.

What do you think? Unique design for 5th anniversary, subtle teaser for China stuff coming, or new background for future band style holowear.

Unite Dex — Tackle, Scratch, Pound

Tackle, Scratch and Pound are the base moves that all starters have when received in mainline games.

13/16 Starters use more unique base moves that are weaker version of 1 of their upgraded move paths.

Pokémon Unite has finally (after over 4.5 years) given the recent starters (Typhlosion, Feraligatr, and Quaquaval) their true base move from mainline games.

There were options that could be more similar to their upgraded moves:
Cyndaquil with Quick Attack upgraded into Flame Wheel (instead of Tackle).
Totodile with Aqua Jet upgraded into Waterfall (instead of Scratch).
Quaxly with Low Kick upgraded into Low Sweep (instead of Pound).

Why do you think these got the starting moves over the others?
Do you like that they gave them these more or do you prefer more unique moves?

Toxtricity is confirmed — are we finally getting our first playable baby Pokémon with Toxel?

With Toxtricity officially confirmed to join the roster later this year, the big question is: Will we finally get our first playable baby Pokémon, Toxel?

The official artwork shows it in it’s Amped Form. This means it has evolved from a Toxel with an 'amped' Nature.

Do you think we’re finally getting the first playable baby Pokémon in Pokémon Unite?

PROOF: The Devs Left 50+ Anime References Hidden in UNITE! (47/93 Pokémon Mapped)

I’ve always noticed that the animations and character quirks in Pokémon UNITE felt like direct nods to the animated series, so I decided to find the exact proof.

This post is a full text expansion of my recent visual compilation of 35+ Pokémon anime references here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonUnite/comments/1ttuu7a/35_pok%C3%A9mon_45_anime_references_hidden_in_pok%C3%A9mon/

This text archive expands the project to document 47 out of the current 93 Pokémon Unite Licenses in the roster, breaking down why these unique animations are deliberate design choices.

Here is the complete deep-dive breakdown of what is actually occurring in the anime versus the game:

Pokémon - Anime Episode - Anime Scene - UNITE Comparison

1. Clefable

  • Anime Episode: Clefairy and the Moonstone
    • Anime: Wild Clefairy in Mt. Moon use Metronome and ends up using explosion.
    • UNITE: Clefable has a chance of using explosion when it uses its Unite Move: Wonder Wish, the Unite version of Metronome.
  • Anime Episode: A Goldenrod Opportunity
    • Anime: Gym Leader Whitney’s Clefairy uses Metronome and ends up using splash, the Unite version of Metronome.

5. Gyarados

  • Anime Episode: Pokémon Shipwreck
    • Anime: James buys a Magikarp (which he kicks into the sea), it evolves into Gyarados and its rage peaks causing it to use (as Misty puts it “Gyarados’ Ultimate attack”) Dragon Rage. It sends everyone far, far away.
    • UNITE: When you hold down Gyarados’ Unite Move: Dragon Current, it can create a similar waterspout that knocks up enemy Pokémon.

6. Sylveon

  • Anime Episode: Kindergarten Chaos
    • Anime: Penelopes’ Sylveon uses Draining Kiss to heal itself. Then it uses fairy wind and wipes its feelers in front of itself.
    • UNITE: Sylveons’ Draining Kiss is used in a similar way, and also doesn’t need to be close to heal like Clefables’ Draining Kiss. When Sylveon uses Swift it whips its feelers in front of itself.
  • Anime Episode: Party Dance capades
    • Anime: Serena’s Eevee evolves into Sylveon. When avoiding attacks it doesn’t just dodge, it dances as stated by Miette.

47. Skeliderge

  • Pokémon Horizons: The Series
    • Anime: Roy's Fuecoco is defined entirely by its passion for singing, using its voice to power up its attacks. It Disarming Voice attack straight and its stronger when other people or Pokémon sing with it. In Tinkatink’s Hammer Wasn’t Made In a Day, The egg on Roy’s Crocalor head falls off, showing it’s not attached to it’s body.
    • UNITE: Skeliderge’s ability: Blaze, unlike others it relies on waiting then it deals more damage. Which links to its repetitive singing then powered up move in anime. It uses Disarming Voice/Hyper Voice in the same way unlike Clefable/Sylveon’s moves. When Crocalor scores it eggs jumps from it’s head and falls back on.

That’s 47 Pokémon with direct inspirations from anime.
With the current roster at 93 Unite Licenses, over half the roster has anime references.
This is just what I’ve uncovered there’s still likely a lot more hidden.

This full documentation project shows that from the 1997 Kanto classics all the way to the modern Pokémon Horizons, the UNITE developers consistently use the animated series as one of their ultimate frame reference guide to keep these characters lore-accurate.

Thank you to everyone who checked out the original visual thread! I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Which hidden animation details surprised you the most?

Unite Dex — Skeliderge

Skeliderge as joined the roster today, here are all the inspirations behind it's design.

Boosted Basic - Shoot orange fireballs (Fuecoco, Crocoaor) - Uses ember in the anime in a similar way.

Boosted Basic - Shoots orange, white, and purple mixed fireballs (Skeliderge) - Ember in anime blended into white because its shoots flames of over 5,400 degrees fahrenheit which turn partly white. The purple is because the bird of its nose gained a spirit which is a ghost.

Ability: Blaze - Whenever a set amount of time passes, the next move partially ignores opposing Pokémon’s special defence.

This is likely inspired from its anime appearance - where it’s own singing helps to strength the damage it deals with it’s moves.

Disarming Voice, Hyper Voice, Roar, Snarl range/area of effect increase when there’s an enemy in the trajectory. Inspired by the anime where the singing of others makes its moves stronger.

It uses Disarming Voice in the anime in a similar way.

Hyper Voice - Crocalor “it utters a guttural cry as it spew flame in all directions”

Unite Move: Rousing Symphony

“Has the user vitalize nearby ally Pokéon with its gallant singing, increasing the damage ally Pokémon deal to Pokémon from the opposing team for a short time. Afterwards, the user unleashes a fiery bird in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon.”

This is based on its signature move Torch Song. The bird on its nose disappears while its flying and also while out the screen. The bird return when the unite move buff ends.

When Skeliderge scores the bird changes to the microphone form and shoots into the goal the points it has.
