Title: Astoria witch sketches from a riverboat stop

Stopped in Astoria on a riverboat cruise and got obsessed with the witches “crashed” into the streetlight poles. My wife missed the photo, so I did a quick sketch on the bus. Later found out the guy who started the tradition passed away, so I drew a second piece as a little tribute.

Sharing both — one fast and messy, one more thoughtful. Astoria’s witches were the highlight of the trip.

Done for r/LearnToDrawTogether this week's challenge.

Sketched this hanging spider plant while visiting a friend who has an impressive green thumb. I focused on capturing the plant’s growth habit — the arching leaves, the stolons, and the offsets — using line variation to separate mature foliage from the younger plantlets.

Trying to improve my botanical accuracy in ink, especially how to suggest structure and rhythm without overworking the lines.
Critique welcome from anyone experienced in botanical line work or plant morphology.

So I’m sitting there, minding my own business, doing a nice pen‑and‑ink drawing of Sungles. Feeling good about the cross‑hatching, the shadows, the whole thing.

Enter Silver.
She hops onto the table like she owns the studio, looks at the drawing, then looks at me, then looks at the drawing again… with the exact expression of a cat who has discovered betrayal in its purest form.

She plops down right next to it, like she’s guarding the evidence. Tail flicking. Eyes narrowed. The vibe was:
“Wow. You drew that cat. Interesting choice. Bold. Wrong.”

I think she’s demanding her own portrait. Possibly a full series. Maybe a gallery show.

Anyway, here’s Silver being dramatic about my artistic priorities.
