New 1016 gilt dials

Been working on these for a long time. True gilt 1016 explorer with chapter ring. This is a non lumped example. What you're seeing is an oxidized brass dial with uncovered design.

My small and humble collection.

1016 GILT wip

Back with another gilt update featuring a new 1016 design.

This is a raw dial meaning its only an oxidized dial with the design showing in brass. This still needs a polished glossy lacquer layer to really show the deep black of the brass oxide and finished by applying lume on top.

It has a nice warm glow. Kinda look like 22k gold.

Franken 1501

It took many months but it's finally finished. All gen except movement (VS3135), bracelet (Raffles), hands and plexi (EWP).

No caseback scratching by the rotor either.

I have finally been able to achieve a shiny gilt design on an oxidized brass dial. Before it would come out matte. Now it's finally proper true gilt. Previous dials i posted were painted or used another method to achieve the blackening.

Rolex used to galvanize their dials, I'm using a chemical "shortcut" (cold oxidation) that kind of achieved the same results. In the future I will electroplate the dials in a black nickel solution.

I still have to work some things out but I'm like 90% there. This was a very quick test on a test dial (hence the two crowns) so the oxide layer isn't that great.

Watch the video in 4k if you can. But even that doesn't do it justice. Once I take the time to properly polish and oxidize my blanks the difference in the shiny brass and dark black dial will be huge. I'll seal it all with clear lacquer and then apply lume.

Im producing 1675, 7928, 6542 and 1016 gilt dials.

Sick of it yet? I'm not.

Major breakthrough. Proper oxide layer while keeping the brass super shiny. This dial was a bit dirty hence the spots and the weird line. I'm kind of in a hurry and wanted to test a new method. I say it works. Tomorrow or this weekend I'll finetune it. True oxidized shiny brass gilt dials coming very soon. No paint. No toner transfer. No decals.

28.5mm dial with NH movement feet.

Glossy deep black dial. Hand lumed. Shiny gilt. Dial protector included. Only asking €150 excl shipping! World wide delivery. DM to order.

I have more blanks coming soon so I'll have more of these and other designs available soon.

That's all your getting.

Prototype for the 1675 gilt. First try to see what needs to be tweaked in the design. This was mostly a test to see how the font would come out. Sadly my phone applies some AI nonsense to it making it look weird. The texture is also not something to pay attention to. Final product will have a deep black glossy dial.

Dial blanks are for the 2836 movement and require a DWO. These were custom made by a factory. There is no link or shop that sells them.

Edit: I guess it's actually a 6542 dial :D

7928 and 1675 gilt dials. These do not represent the finished product just thought I'd share some sneak previews.

u/Unlikely-Length6661 — 20 days ago

27.3mm GMT blanks arrived. Dial feet for 2836 and some other movement. These will require a DWO.

Got about 50 of them for my gilt 1675 dials I will be producing soon

Will never get tired of gilt.

It's a glossy black dial but in low light situations all you see is a void with shiny brass all around. It reflects light so well.

Yes yes I know I keep posting about gilt dials and I keep using the same old case..

I'm very close to finishing the process of producing true gilt dials. Very shiny, polished to a mirror brass contrasted by a glossy black dial. Lume is applied by hand.

It's impossible to capture the way the brass shines with a picture. It's something that has to be seen in real life. Even in the shadow it shines as its very good at reflecting light.

It almost looks like gold. I guess that's what Rolex were going for in the 50s and 60s?

This project has taken me almost 6 frustrating and long months but I've learned so much along the way.

If you're interested in a 1016 gilt dial for your next build send me a DM. These are made for NH movements. I also have 1675 GMT gilt dials very soon for the 2836 movement. A DWO is needed for this dial as it has the datewindow in the Rolex position.
