How do you get diagnosed with ADHD as an adult?

I’m 35 years young and genuinely need help at this time of my life because it feels like my brain is running me in circles. I cant make a decision and stick to it . I’m not sure why it seems to be getting worse more so lately. ive heard it’s expensive and time consuming as in it it’s a long process. I’m also not considering stimulant medication because many years ago now when i was dabbling in recreational substances i had several drug induced psychosis episodes. definitely not something i want to risk experiencing again. has anyone else been diagnosed at a later age? and I might add the reason why im fairly confident about having adhd is not only the traits that i have but also the fact several of my children have been diagnosed.
