Late fee on invoice after three years of saying nothing. How do you bring it up?
Three years of no late fees and one client left owing us months of retainer. I run a 9 person MSP with about 40 clients on Net 30. Most pay fine, but a few drift to 45, 60, 75 days while we keep working tickets. The AR aging report kept creeping up and i kept hearing they were waiting on the owner to sign checks meanwhile payroll Friday still happens. We were the unofficial line of credit, which is a dumb way to run an MSP. One client hit 90 plus days, moved to another provider and those months probably arent coming back. Lesson learned, we are not a bank. I'm updating the MSA and invoice terms, including a late fee and the right to suspend service, applied the same way to everyone. What wording has worked for you without making clients feel personally insulted?
