How to prep wall for backsplash tile

This is how my walls look after removing existing tile. The house was built in 1930’s. Some sort of plaster over concrete board walls. So some of the plaster came off with the old tile down to the concrete board.

What do I need to do to prepare for laying the new backsplash tile? Should I remove all remaining thinset? Or just skim the wall relatively flat? Or am I good to just tile over everything since there isn’t more than ~1/4” deviation between high and low spots?

Thanks for the input!

Assumed name vs DBA (NY)

Hello! I live in Upstate New York and am going off on my own to start a construction business. I have some questions hopefully I can get some help with here.

I got the LLC, EIN, business bank account, quickbooks account… then I went to file for the business license and I got stuck.

New York state is interesting because you can file with the state for an assumed name or you can file with the county for a DBA. My understanding is you do one or the other, not both. But I’m having a hard time finding useful resources/knowledgeable people on this subject.

As a construction business, I’ll be working in multiple counties. So it would be easier to file for an assumed name once rather than a DBA in every county I end up doing work in.

Any help on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mike Abbot’s Spring Pole Lathe

Here’s the spring pole lathe design from Mike Abbott’s book “Living Wood”. I like the single bed, adjustable height legs, and swing arm treadle.

Anyone have tips for a beginner to spring pole lathes? I’m almost done building it and looking forward to learning to use it.

Electric hoist and I-Beam trolley compatibility

I currently have an I beam trolley with a chain hoist attached to it like in photo 1. I purchased an electric hoist but an unsure how to mount it. It came with brackets to use with a monorail and when searching I found this trolley that I think would work with the hoist but could only find a photo, no reliable sources to purchase.

Am I missing something? I find it hard to believe there isn’t a solution for this and that I just don’t know the right keyword to search for. TIA
