How many of you spider man mains originated from FGC communities?

How many of you spider man mains originated from FGC communities?

Im 27 now, but about 10 years ago I was really involved in competitive melee (smash bros melee). I used to main Falco and Fox when I played and they’re the only characters in gaming that I could compare to the level of high skill floor/high skill ceiling that spider man has in Rivals.

If I’m being honest Fox Mcloud has an even higher skill ceiling than spider man, to the point that players that mained him were developing carpel tunnel syndrome regularly lol and you had to use a tournament legal game cube controller which was pretty unoptimized for performing his tech skill.

I was addicted to grinding those characters for years because their combos were fluid and satisfying, and falco/fox players would get a lot of spidy type hate but were also loved because they were so entertaining to watch.

Falco and fox also were the two most combo-able characters so you would get stomped so hard if you were not equal or above the skill level of your opponent. And the mind games you developed from fighting games really does transfer to rivals too which I love so much. And another similarity to spider man is that if you screw up any of your tech you would just get instantly punished and die for it, so they were glass cannons in the same sense.

Anyway I love spider man and daredevil in rivals and he really makes me feel like I’m playing a fighting game within a shooter genre, and I haven’t had the desire to improve at a hero as much since I played melee.

I seen this tournament highlight video a couple days ago from over ten years ago and it got me reminiscing lol so I’ll drop that here too. I remember watching this tournament live and it was awesome, the crowd energy was insane.

Also for added context on this tournament, the “five melee gods” (mango, armada, mew2king, hungrybox and PPMD) were the 5 most dominant players in competitive melee for over ten years iirc. The community started calling them the 5 gods because over this period of time, they were the only players to win major tournaments, they would only lose to each other and nobody came close to beating any of them. Leffen was dubbed the “godslayer” because he was the first player to win a set against all of them. This tournament was hype af because it was his first time beating armada, and other upsets in the tournament led to one of the hype at top 8s in melee history.

Can we get more dive players to play White Fox that actually know how to run it down in a dive composition?

In my experience a lot of white fox players never support their dps in flanks and off angles. I see them peeling for the other healer most of the time which is situationally an ok thing to do but not her optimal role. When I play WF I will play aggressive with my flankers and venoms/caps and we snow ball the other team so easily.

I guess a lot of Strat players think that she is supposed to be a payload princess when she’s one of the most effective enablers for melee/mobile heroes.

So yeah I’d just like it if more people that know how to play dive would play her, because I’m sick of these invis/cnd one tricks throwing on her with their healbot/passive gameplay strategies.

Players that don’t understand the concept of holding checkpoints on attack after pushing the enemy back. There is a better chance you will win the game if you can stagger the enemy when possible; don’t allow them to get back to the cart without being punished for it. There’s a reason domination points are open space within the boundaries of the objective, and there is little to no cover when you as an individual are contesting the point, this is where dps ultimates a lot of the time will get the most value in domination.

But nah let’s just sit on point and burn our support ults while the enemy simply waits them out using the cover outside of the objective. Also if you main support, and your game sense for using your ultimate is to immediately match the opposing support ult you are boosted.

Unfortunately you can get to celestial 3 on console without understanding any of this. Way too many players sitting on cart instead of pushing and keeping an advantage on convoy maps, or even worse it happens on domination all the time.
I push up beyond the domination point to hold the enemy team at the choke point, and both my healers (and tanks are terrible for this too, learn how to use your body to block entrances, this is how you can bottle neck the enemy team and get big value with your ult) are sitting on the point standing still or even worse typing in our chat, instead of supporting me at the choke point.

The amount of WF players that only use their teleport to peel instead of assisting their dps on off angles and flanking routes is insane. She is designed to do both so it isn’t always a bad thing for them to peel, but she was literally designed to further enable flankers and melee dps. But so many WF players want to play her as a defensive strategist like CnD or Invis, rather than aggressive which is just suboptimal. Having an aggressive WF player on your team is amazing though, she can hard carry with the proper playstyle.

So many players in “high ranks” don’t realize that you can continue to pressure the enemy team after capping? And the games where I do get support in these situations? We stomp the enemy team because the enemy supports can’t get to the point without burning their ultimates.

Like yeah guys let’s just let them walk straight to point and not take advantage of the space we conquered?

They need to reset everyone back to bronze and only allow duo queuing through GM. Way too many boosted players in low-high gm this season.

I finally have a good use for my legendary spider man title! I just set it on when I don’t feel like playing him now. Without fail the enemy team will waste a ban slot on him when I don’t even care whether I can play him or not at this point.

I main star lord and venom mostly, but recently I’ve been playing DD a lot again and he is still so good! This strategy has been allowing me to play him in more matches as I’ve been ranking up. Sometimes they ban spidy and dd which sucks but it leaves Elsa open which is great too.

He is so fun to play and his skill expression is insane. Haven’t touched him since I lorded him in his prime and I’m glad he’s still amazing.
